“i would stay again”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2014

The location was excellent, staff friendly and efficient check in , luggage storage and taxi transfer.I was in an attic room which faced the Dome church and was quiet. The room had a sloping roof with a beam structure which may possibly trouble a tall person.l liked it because it gave character which the huge old fashioned hotel front door impressed also.I did not take breakfast as I ate nearby in the numerous bars and restaurants. You can only eat so much.Overall very good value in a lovely city.

It is really well situated - city centre is right outside the lobby.

Front desk staff was very nice, helpful and spoke good english. We used their help by booking cabs to the airport.

We stayed there a larger group of people, since we got married in Latvia and our guests arrived some days earlier.

However, there was one huge minus to the hotel - the breakfast was more than awful... You might read this and think that I am just complaining for something so little, but you wait and see... It is truly awful and the staff seems unprofessional and stressed. Well, I would be too, if I would have to serve that to my guests...

Rooms are nothing special, the price is very low, so stay, if you cannot find anything else... An ok medium hotel with good location.

Room Tip: Ask for the room that is facing the Dome church - much better view and no street noise...

Located in the old town of Riga the hotel help us to better explore the city. Friendly and supportive staff helped us to rent a car with a local company. The room was spacious and the breakfast average. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Possibly noisy rooms on first and second floors due to the pub opposite to hotel's entrance.

We were recommended this hotel by our Latvian family and friends who live in Riga and they gave excellent advice. The location of this hotel is superb, right in the middle of the Old Town. Most of the attractions of Riga are within walking distance and this hotel is centrally placed between Dome Square and the amazing building of The Blackhead Merchants. The service was excellent and friendly. The hotel receptionists even helped me to translate some of my wedding toast into Russian! The breakfast was quite substantial by Latvian standards and the hotel gave us the impression that they were wanting to please us and ensure we had an enjoyable stay. One important tip – if you are offered a $10 upgrade to your room, take it! The superior rooms are far better than the standard rooms. The room we had was very spacious, enough to accommodate two arm chairs and two settees. Well worth the supplement.

Room Tip: Avoid the standard or budget rooms - the superior rooms are well worth the supplement.

Dear David B,

thank you very much for your stay at KOLONNA Hotel Riga previous summer and very nice feedback!

My team and I are always looking forward to do our best to meet your expectations! We were more than pleased to translate the wedding posts into Russian for you.

Yes, you are right, our Superior rooms are almost two times bigger than Standard rooms, it is really a good deal to make your stay more comfortable and pleasant. Try a Penthouse room next time, you will be amazed by the beautiful view!

Looking forward to welcome you and your family again!

The hotel is in a great location, 2 mins from the cathedral, the reception staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

We booked a city deal room, which I would not recommend, we had to upgrade, as the room was a smoking room and a separate external bathroom, the next room was slightly better but at least it had an internal bathroom.

Breakfast was ok but i wouldn't get up especially for it.

I would recommend the cafe next door, great atmosphere and cakes.

Dear Dbmarton,
thank you very much for your feedback following your recent stay with us!

I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed our central location as well as service provided by Receptionists.
Yes, you are right, it is allowed to smoke in a Tourist Class Twin room as well as it has a private bathroom outside the room at next doors. To enjoy bathoom inside the room, we always recommend to book any other room starting from Standard rooms to Penthouses.

Looking forward to welcome you in our hotel again!

This hotel is ideal for a weekend visit to Riga. Situated around the corner from Dome square, it's ideal for all the attractions this city has to offer. Our room was right in the eves and was small, however we only slept in it so size wasn't a problem and the views across the city from the window were amazing. If you like museums this city is the place to go. They seem to be on every corner. The military museum is definitely worth a visit and you could easily spend a good few hours in here. If you aren't scared of heights a visit to the Academy of Sciences is worth a trip up to their viewing platform. Another good view point of the city is from the top of the raddison hotel. If you do go to Riga and are looking for a restaurant with traditional food, look out for a mad monk hovering around a wooden door. Follow him in and you won't be disappointed!

Room Tip: The top floor rooms are small so not good if you are tall but the views are good.

This hotel is very easy to find, within walking distance of anyway in the old town. Staff were helpful and the room was clean.

Would recommend for this type of trip. If you want romance it would probably not tick the box but for a base for sightseeing with friends.....perfect!!
