“Cosy!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2011

We chose this hotel because the rates for all the Radisson Blu hotels suddenly jumped up and we didn't want to pay the prices.
The Albert Hotel is a little way out of the old town but it was not a problem for reception to
call for a taxi for us when we didn't feel like walking and the prices were reasonable.
I was worried the hotel would be cold since we were visiting the Baltics but in fact it was very warm and cosy. A little too warm at times!
The rooms were nicer than the pictures on the website and breakfast was hot and plentiful and we always got a table even though there were 20 visiting ice hockey teams staying in the hotel to attend a competition.
The barman Lauris was very attentive in the lobby bar and the Star Lounge with it's 2 for 1 cocktails, lovely staff and views of Riga was delightful.
I was very impressed with the wifi in the lobby that enabled me to print my boarding passes quickly and efficiently and the reception staff were helpful when needed.
We really enjoyed our city break at the Albert Hotel and absolutely loved Riga and its people.
Will return in the future but probably in the summer months.

As a lot of people have said, this hotel is modern with a nice restaurant and a nice cocktail bar that had great views of the city. The breakfast had a great selection and items were quickly replaced if they ran low. We also had one evening meal there which was also very nice.

The rooms are not big but have all you need for a short stay, if you were there for a longer stay you might find the wardrobe space a bit small but it was OK for shorter stay, no tea or coffee making facilities so you need to take your own if you want this, there is a small fridge for the mini bar. TV had a few English channels and the bathroom was fine.

There is also free wifi in the hotel that worked very well with decent speed.

The reception staff spoke good English and were always very helpful with directions etc.

Good hotel and if I return to Riga would stay there again.

This really is a great place. 15 minutes walk from the old town and it is that - ignore daft comments about half an hour! Nice Tom, great staff and really rather wonderful restaurant for Dinner. Breakfast is amazing - full buffet with everything you can want. Smoked fish, egg, bacon, etc, etc. This hotel is a serious contender in Riga. Just wish they would franchise into other cities!

We stayed at the Albert after it was recommended by friends and would be willing to do the same. It was very modern with a great Albert Einstein theme throughout. The rooms had fantastic touches like the 'I'm thinking' do not disturb signs and Einstein pictures and quotes in frames. If you stay at the front of the hotel you have a great view of the rooftops of Riga, realy good when its been snowing. TV also offered more english speaking channels than many European hotels I've stayed in recently.

Breakfast was a buffet style and plentiful. it did have some odd choices like pickled fish and meatballs but also has cold meats, cheese, boiled eggs and bacon and a plentiful supply of hot drinks.

We found the reception staff very polite. Star bar was great at cocktail hour but reception bar was friendlier.

this hotel was great value for money, 20 mins walk to old town in snow and comes highly recommended.

The Albert is a quirky, cosy spot in the funky Art Noveau part of Riga.

The hotel carries a theme of Albert Einstein with chalkboard menus and room numbers and a decor serving as a fitting tribute to the man, library and famous quotes on the Walls included. It provided a unique touch that deems the hotel memorable months after having stayed there.

The rooms are well sized and offer fantastic value. High speed Internet via cable is free and a major plus on a long trip.

The restaurant is expensive by Riga standards, but you won't be disappointed by your meal- the food is delicious.

The sky bar provides a fantastic panorama of Riga, and A brilliant spot to enjoy some mellow tunes and a beverage.

It is about 15 minutes walk to the old town, so the location might be a bit far out for some, but it allowed us some more time to explore the back streets of Riga.

A fab hotel, and highly recommended.

The room was small but clean and served it's purpose very well. I saw very little of the staff which might be exactly how it should be, everything was as it should be. Breakfast was heaven everything you could imagine you would like and then some. The view from the top floor bar is beautiful, don't miss it. Across the street is a great blues bar worth visiting. The magnificent art nouveau buildings of Riga are just next street, short distance to walk to the old down town area.

We had an all in deal here which included transfers, room and dinner and it was excellent value for money. Yes, this is not a 5 star hotel with massive rooms and loads of amenities but for the price you pay this hotel cannot be faulted.

Location - about 10mins walk from the old town, which is good given how noisy it gets in old town on the weekends. Just around the corner from the hotel are 2 great restaurants - Flying Frog and Metropolitan Cafe - both serve great food at very reasonable prices

Hotel staff - reception were very pleasant as were all staff. Very helpful with advice and maps of the city centre, couldn't do more to help with requests

Amenities - free internet terminal on the ground floor, no fancy gym or pool but there was a nice bar with a good view on the top floor

Food - Breakfast was good with a good variety. Dinner in the hotel restaurant was also very good (not spectacular) but the setting and quality was as good as many medium priced restaurants in the UK but at half the price.

Rooms - quite small and fairly basic but clean and comfortable.

So overall, not a 5 star hotel but for a 3/4 star hotel at this price, you won't find better value.
