I've just come back from a week-long trip to Latvia and stayed 2 nights in this hotel, but came back a number of times during the week for dinner and to visit the Skyline bar.

The rooms are basic accomoboxes: large twin beds, no trouser-press or tea-and-coffee making facilities. However they do have a number of different room types from the basic to the seriously swanky. -But they're very clean; the carpet looks well hoovered which was reassuring. The beds were relatively comfortable.

The bathroom was an ok size - the wetroom design would be good for the elderly I would say, although they would probably have to request a shower-chair. I don't mind not having a bath as quite often they're not properly cleaned anyway. I also didn't mind the dispenser soap and shower-gel; I tend to use them mainly for cleaning glasses and cups in the room anyway (no, I don't regard wiping cups and glasses - or the bath for that matter - with the towels you've just used as being "clean", which happens in a lot of places)

The security in the hotel is good - you need your keycard to access your floor and room. At night the paronamic lifts go to the bar and gym only. The wifi is wholly complimentary and there are even powerpoints in the bar for private laptops. This is a great service.

The buffet breakfasts were excellent, even cooking eggs to order with a fantastic selection. Best buffet breakfast of anywhere I've stayed.
The buffet dinner (12.5 lats ex. drinks) is also good value - but it's better at the weekends than during the week. Still filling and nice. The food and drink in the lobby bar is reasonable for the location. The Gastronome gourmet fish restaurant onsite is also excellent and good value by Irish standards. But food seems generally good in the places I visited - CiliPica is particularly reliable.

The Skyline Bar MUST be visited - it's brilliant for people-spotting if nothing else; I was there during the week and on Friday night. It was full but not heaving - with super-comfy sofas and really nice cocktails. The public areas of the hotel are nicely, but comfortably decorated.

This is a very very big and popular hotel, we witness lots of large tour groups, but once they moved through the lobby you'd barely know. Stag party shenanigans are firmly dealt with thankfully.

The staff were nice and polite in all areas. Any attempt at speaking Latvian was appreciated, which was nice.

The upshot - I'd like to visit Riga again, and will be staying here. If I get to visit other Balkan countries I will definately be staying at their sister hotels there.

  • Liked — It's location and the lively atmosphere. Good transport links including taxis

The Reval provides a nice, clean modern place to stay just a few blocks from Old Town Riga. The rooms are spacious by European standards, with comfortable beds and modern furnishings. Service in the hotel is slightly less than one would expect, but that seems to be the case for just about everything in Latvia. The bar on the top of the hotel is definately as nice as all reviewers have stated - very modern and an amazing view.

I also attended a conference event that was held at the hotel and the facilities were excellent.

  • Liked — Room was much nicer than expected
  • Disliked — overall service is sub par - this is unfortunately nearly universal in Latvia, however.

I've stayed at this hotel for two nights, was on a business trip. Big, modern hotel, room is spacious, very clean, spotless, bathroom is big enough, too. The view from my room was really great, you don't get this too often. I've had some issues in the room (air conditioning, TV were not working properly), but I did not have the time to sort them out with the reception, was too busy. The breakfast
is great, you've got lots of choices. Don't miss the sky-bar and the sauna (again: with great views!). Using the taxis, be careful if you ask for taking you to a club, because they mean striptease-bars! (stag-night-capital of Eastern-Europe...) And: girls are not allowed to get into the striptease-bar (probably not only striptease-bars...) overall; a good hotel, and a great city with wonderful architecture, and with very pretty girls.

As already mentioned in other reviews, this hotel needs a few more lifts. For the most part, however, that was not a problem for me, but when the place is busy, the lifts take a while. The rooms are adequate, but nothing spectacular. There are very nice views of the city from one side of the hotel, especially from the upper floors. My room was what most hotels describe as a "junior suite" and was very spacious, but by looking at the floor plan map on the door, I could see that it was the only suite on the floor. I assume this is probably the case on all levels, so if you want the larger room, ask for room number 01, e.g., 1001 on the tenth floor. The other rooms looked a bit small on the floor plan, but different floors might have different floor plans too.

Furnishings in the room were adequate, but not particularly nice. They looked as if they had all come from IKEA. Plain, blonde, cheap wooden furniture - functional, but nothing special. My suite had a nice built-in ironing board and iron, but no tea or coffee kettle. I had to either order up or go down to the restaurant for my morning coffee. The room was very clean and well-maintained. All-in-all a nice room, but I would not agree with the other reviewer who said that it should have a 5-star rating. It is nice and clean and well-run, but it is not 5-star.

Food service was good. Pretty typical hotel stuff, but not bad. Hotel staff were friendly and accomodating.

The hotel is in a very good location, a short walk to Old Town, and 15 minute taxi ride from the airport, as long as you aren't going to or from there during the rush hour. During the rush periods, it can take 45 minutes or more. If you are not the sort who has to stay in the "lap of luxury" this hotel is clean, a good value, and in a great location. I will definitely return.
