“Alternative starter”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 22, 2013

We booked a table ar 3 Pavaru, at the moment of booking they offered us a type of table but at the arrival they were going to sit us in another place, but this was sorted and put us in a better table.
There is not a permanent menu instead they have daily dishes for all tastes including a vegetarian. Me and my friend we both had fish dishes (tuna&salmon) and they were outstanding.
The staff were great and very cordial.
I highly recommend this restaurant

“Haute cuisine, informal atmosphere with a touch of class and a hint of fusion”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2013

I ate at this restaurant on advise of the hostel I stayed in. The concept of the restaurant is quite unique, it is part art, part show, part new cuisine. There is an open kitchen, and if you are seated at the bar (which I did as solo traveler), you see all the action directly in front of you. The menu looks rather simple, but it is understated with what you actually get on your plate. Very unique, well balanced taste combinations and every plate looks like a painting. The first dish is painted in front of you :-). The price for a 3 course dinner with some wine was spot on, not too low, not too high.

“Great way for us to bow out of Riga”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2013

Our last night in Riga, and really glad that we (well, I !!) decided to 'risk' booking this place which clearly divides opinion on Tripadvisor. Why it does so isn't immediately obvious as it really isn't that radical unless you really have a serious problem with the 'butters' for your bread being squeegeed onto your greaseproof paper placemats. It's a little bit of fun, and most of the dishes that follow also have an unexpected tweak that makes you chuckle.

Both starters and mains cover most of the bases in terms of the key ingredient; what many reviewers seem not to like is that you don't know how they're going to cook/serve your beef/pork/lamb/tuna/whitefish or whatever until you get there, but sound cooking techniques are adopted throughout, and you would have to be a pretty lousy eater not to find at least a couple of things for each course that you'd be more than happy to order. Rest assured, it's unlikely you are going to be faced with a Japanese blow-fish !

The two female chefs working the central kitchen counter, along with the waiting staff, were all extremely friendly and you just felt extremely comfortable there. The room itself is wonderfully light and airy and looks out onto the pedestrianised 'street' below (the ground floor is half a dozen steps above street level).

If it really does offend your sensibilities to go somewhere where you can't preview the menu precisely beforehand (the website is clearly, deliberately and teasingly sparse), then you can at least walk up to the place, where the printed menu outside the door does give you the reassuring 'basics', and have another think.

But honestly, there is nothing scary about the food here, and you would have to be a very, very staid eater to take any offence at the small injunction of fun that is on offer here. Our Friday night in Riga was all the better for it.

“One of the highlights of the trip.”

I visited this restaurant along with 7 other people and we all loved it. We loved the idea of the open kitchen. The chefs also interacted with us, creating a really friendly environment. Plus the food was great!
