“Want a Bird's Eye View of Riga ?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013 via mobile

It is so beautiful to view Riga from the top of this medieval style Lutheran Church. It's architecture is interesting. From the St. Peter Tower it is apparent that this is a well preserved city whose inhabitants take pride in their city.
St. Peter's is well worth a visit.

“Impressive 360 degree view/limited space.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

At 5Ls each the visit is rather expensive. A creaky lift operated by a member of staff goes up and down about every five minutes. The viewing platform is small and overcrowded. But there is no more expansive a view in the whole of Riga.

“Could be more”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

The view is OK if you have not seen a better one. And I have - the view from the Academy of Science, close to the Riga central market. There you can see the whole Riga - a spacious balcony with no bars, not many visitors and - cheaper!!!!

“Wrong impressions”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 21, 2013

If taking the same pictures as the million people before you did to add them to the collection, than this birdseye view of Riga is the place to be. If you want to take the birdseye view in for your own sensory enjoyment, then make sure you come in the fist couple of elevators. The platform gets cramped quite quickly with the picturetaking addicts.
The elevator doesn't feel very safe and the bumps before the opening of the doors do cause panic in the faint of heart.
The church interior and architecture are what's most interesting to me, but there was a lack of usefull information about this. Still, the walk through the church was nice.
The demeanour of the staff is less than nice. You've got the option between rude and "not noticing you". The 5 Lt entryfee is quite high for latvian standards and the lady in the ticketoffice is probably wishing it were 10 Lt as to deminish the amount of visitors bothering her. Bringing up the Riga-card is at your own perril, as it isn't on the discount list. If you want to bug the ticketchecking lady, decide to look at the church before walking towards the elevator.
Inside the church was an exhibition with paintings from a famous paintress, but the works failed to impress me.
All in all a mixed bag.

“Fabulous views ... but come early”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 14, 2013

There is no where else in Old Town to get a birdseye view of the beautiful buildings, streets and squares. The challenge is that the elevator to the viewing platform is small - perhaps eight people can squeeze in - and it runs quite slowly (also, you need to walk up two flights of stairs to get to the elevator). Get to the church at opening (which was 10:00am the Saturday we visited) and you won't have a problem. At this time of the morning the sun is also in the best position for you to take photos of Old Town. There is an admission fee of 5 Lats.
