“We will return to Riga just to go here”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2014 via mobile

We stumbled on this restaurant on our first evening in Riga and are so happy we did. The food was excellent. Some of the best smoked fish I've ever had...and the beer on offer was definitely the finest I've ever tasted - and I lived in Germany for 5 years. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the cute atmosphere was fab. You're missing out if you don't go here.

“Joly and tasty”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2014

We have been for dinner there. A boy-girl duet met us with many lovely folk songs. The taverna specialises for fish and deer food, we ordered a mix of cold fish pieces which deserved more arrangement phantasy from chef, and a deer stake on cranberries and blackberries which was just great. Local beer from tap was also fine.

“service great, food ok”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2014

We were the only guests on a Thursday evening from 8-10pm. This surprised us a little bit. We were welcomed in a very friendly way. We had a fish soup which was delicious, a herring - which was just OK and salmon. I went to the Taverna due to the great ratings of other trip advisor fellows but I can definitely not commend this restaurant for its food.

“Tasty food, friendly staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2013

If you're looking for traditional Latvian food in an atmospheric setting, this is the place. It's right by the war museum, down a flight of stairs. We went with a group of 10 (w reservations) and it was not a problem. I highly recommend the Latvian sampler. It has a special dish (and beer!) from each of the 4 regions of Latvia, and the waiter presented an expiation of all of it, complete with map and pointer! Who knew Latvians believed they invented pizza? My son had the herring, which was huge. Warning: soup in a bread bowl should be viewed as a meal and not an appetizer. All food is traditional, so no soft drinks, which was great. The kids tried cherry, currant and birch drinks, and liked them all. I'd definitely go back--our waiter was by far the friendliest person I met in Latvia.

“Best Latvian cuisine”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2013

Hello,
It was our first time in Riga and we came across this taverna by chance walking around old town. This place had full package: location, friendly prices, quality local dishes, amazing interior, decorations and atmosphere, very friendly staff.....just must eat in place for every traveller.
