Spent a night at Riveraide Hotel with my father on a cross-Baltic drive/vacation. Price was the chief motivator and Riverside does not disappoint. Our total was around $45 for a twin room, guarded parking and a pot of tea (room service). The location is about a mile away from Old Town and you have to walk through a rather drab, back-of-the-railway-station area or take public transport to get there.
The room itself is small but well-appointed for a budget hotel. The three stars are definitely one too generous as there isn't a mini-fridge in the room and the hotel lacks an elevator which can be very family-unfriendly as the only twin rooms are on the fourth floor. The hotel advertises a sauna and hot tub but they aren't free and are rather pricey at around $10-15 per use. The reception staff is friendly and speaks English and Russian well.
If you're a budget-oriented traveler and don't mind being a bit off the beaten path, you will do just fine, but I wouldn't recommend the hotel if you're after even slightly above-average luxury.
