“Very central - lovely Spa”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 19, 2013

When on business it is nice to stay at the Opera Hotel. Spacious rooms, nice and clean and not too noisy (but don't pick room 302). Make sure you don't arrive too late or depart too early: you may just treat yourself to a facial or a nice massage in the Spa, which is really worthwhile!

The hotel was clean and comfortable and within walking distance of loads of great things in Riga, the on site things (sauna and spa etc) were both clean and comfy with friendly staff! My room was massive and really nice, it was cleaned daily and the bathroom had some nice treats like a bubble bath, heated mirror and heated floor! I'd return here any day!

Room Tip: My room was a 'delux' (or something like that) and it was amazing...

Very good location 5 mins walk from old town. Friendly staff and good breakfast, with plenty of choice. Comfortable and clean room and nice bathroom, No tea and coffee making facilities in room which would have been nice. Hotel was really warm, which was nice to come into after cold november weather outside, but got a bit too hot in breakfast room. Didn't use the spa as had to pay extra for this. Good value for money.

Room Tip: Got a little bit noisy at the weekend outside, so higher up will be quieter

4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2012

I stayed in November 2012. The room, overlooking the park was beautifully designed and equipped. At last, a room with excellent lighting and a comfortable armchair to allow guests to read! Although overlooking a busy junction, the double glazing ensured that there was no disturbance from traffic noise.
Do not be confused by the title 'and Spa' - 90 minutes in the spa costs 21 €. I had assumed that guests would be allowed access to the basics without charge.
I ate in the restaurant the first night and chose Goose from their special November menu. It was really disappointing - overcooked and dried up, the accompiments were cold. I do not believe it was cooked freshly - it had little taste and I am sure that it had been cooked earlier, frozen and then microwaved. I mentioned this to the waiter, and also wrote it down on the comment form that they brought me with the bill - however nobody bothered to contact me during my stay to investigate my complaint or even to explain!
On the saturday (17th November) a colleague tried to get in touch with me and left messages at reception - these were not passed on.
In summary, a decent comfortable hotel in a good location, but with a need to pay attention to some details

Stayed here 1 night in November. Location is good, opposite Railway Station and few minutes away from Old Riga. Breakfast was really great and good choice! There is a Spa in a hotel but i didnt use it. Rooms (at least #326) are small but very nice, all is new and nice design. Its cheaper than many other 4* hotels in the city, but quality is good! I would recommend it.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 17, 2012

We stayed here for one week in November 2012. The staff is young and everything worked quite well. Breakfast was good and our standard room was nice but quite small. Good location. Not the luxury hotel but just OK. We took the Airport Express bus from the airport to a stop at the hotel. The fare per person was euro 5 or lvl 3. If I compare the general quality price relation in Riga: Riga was much more expensive than I expected.

Room Tip: Standard room is too small. Higher floors (4 - 5) have less trafic noise.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2012

We arrived 2 July late after a long car ride from Tallinn, Estonia and, of course, we accepted the room assigned to us. It seemed pleasant enough, though small with no view. After dinner we showered and turned in for the night.

It was so doggone warm we opened a window only to be flooded with street noise. Our sleep was uncomfortable because of the heat, no ventilation and no functioning air conditioner.

Next morning we complained and was offered only a table fan. We declined this offer and asked for a room with air conditioning. We were told one would be available after noon. we completed our day's activities and upon returning a gracious, friendly and cheerful staff member showed us an available room on the fifth floor. (Room 521)

We moved our luggage and returned the previous keys (of room 425) and we were given complimentary drink tickets.

Problem solved because our new room is wonderful... and the Air Conditioner works wonderfully!

Let us say that the morning breakfast was very good with wide choices and terrific coffee. serving staff smiles and act with great friendliness and professionalism.

To my mind the true measure of a business is how it handles something that has gone awry. The Opera Hotel scores high in our estimate of a superior operation and we are happy to recommend it to anyone seeking top notch service in a European style hotel.

Okay... on the negative side, the Internet connection is a bit slow... but there is no charge for it.

Room Tip: When checking in during Summer INSIST on an air conditioned room
