A fantastic stay in a great hotel was sadly totally ruined by an extremely rude security guard in the basement hotel car park.
In most places in Latvia, security personnel have a very little intellect, but this man's attitude was way beyond anything I have ever experienced.
Be aware, avoid them as much as possible, and report to hotel management any problems.
There is a free underground car park for hotel guests, which can be accessed using your room key. On our way out, after 2 nights stay in this wonderful establishment, the card didn't work anymore, so after trying it quite e few times, I simply called reception. They politely replied and without any questions opened the gates. Meanwhile, security guy managed to get out of his basement office and come over to us. This is where thing got ugly. Instead of asking if he can help us or even saying hallo, he simply barked: ''if you don't have a key, you shouldn't be here! You are not allowed to be in this car park because it for hotel guests only!'' Even when we showed our key, and explained that it simply didn't work, he still refused to believe this, and without apologising, and staring at us as if he was about to kill, swiped his own key, opened gates and walked away.
I went back in to hotel and spoke to front of house/reception manager - a lady whose name I unfortunately didn't wrote down, but she was very polite, apologetic and helpful and promised to discuss this with the security. As I was explained this was a common problem, which they struggle with on a regular basis.
Someone needs to deal with this seriously, these people have to be thought a lesson, as situations like this can completely wipe all the good impressions and memories.
On the good note - Great, fresh, new hotel, fantastic breakfast, pleasant staff, very comfortable beds, high spec rooms, prime location etc.
