A fantastic stay in a great hotel was sadly totally ruined by an extremely rude security guard in the basement hotel car park.
In most places in Latvia, security personnel have a very little intellect, but this man's attitude was way beyond anything I have ever experienced.
Be aware, avoid them as much as possible, and report to hotel management any problems.
There is a free underground car park for hotel guests, which can be accessed using your room key. On our way out, after 2 nights stay in this wonderful establishment, the card didn't work anymore, so after trying it quite e few times, I simply called reception. They politely replied and without any questions opened the gates. Meanwhile, security guy managed to get out of his basement office and come over to us. This is where thing got ugly. Instead of asking if he can help us or even saying hallo, he simply barked: ''if you don't have a key, you shouldn't be here! You are not allowed to be in this car park because it for hotel guests only!'' Even when we showed our key, and explained that it simply didn't work, he still refused to believe this, and without apologising, and staring at us as if he was about to kill, swiped his own key, opened gates and walked away.
I went back in to hotel and spoke to front of house/reception manager - a lady whose name I unfortunately didn't wrote down, but she was very polite, apologetic and helpful and promised to discuss this with the security. As I was explained this was a common problem, which they struggle with on a regular basis.
Someone needs to deal with this seriously, these people have to be thought a lesson, as situations like this can completely wipe all the good impressions and memories.
On the good note - Great, fresh, new hotel, fantastic breakfast, pleasant staff, very comfortable beds, high spec rooms, prime location etc.

Stayed here for 2 nights.
Excellent design hotel! Really nice furnishings, hip and friendly staff, but not really experienced it seems. Also it is understaffed I think, since several times phones went unanswered, requests took 20-30 minutes to be fixed, or were just ignored.
Still, an excellent free breakfast, free WiFi, superb location 5-10 minutes' walk from everything in the city center.
Free gym, too.
Ask for a room on the 8th floor, with hardwood floors and bathtub. Many rooms have carpet and are shower-only.
Check the Reval Hotels web site for special deals, related to concerts and happenings in Riga; we paid only 85 Euros/night, including taxes, breakfast, etc.
Enjoy!

We stayed at Reval Hotel Elizabete for 7 nights and can highly recommend the hotel to everyone travelling to Riga. The hotel is brand new and very stylish in every way. Beautiful lobby and restaurant area. Excellent breakfast. Spacious rooms with everything you need. The staff is pleasant and helpful. Location is great, next to a big park, just 7 minutes walking distance from the old city. The hotel is excellent in every way, so if you are going to Riga, stay at Reval Hotel Elizabete!

This hotel is absolutely worth the money. Stayed here during a business trip. Probably a costly choice for those with moderate budget (the rate was 150 EUR per night). However if you can afford it you won't be disappointed. It has a unique relaxing atmosphere, small yet nice fitness center equipped with new machines and sauna and very good service. I can recommend this hotel for anyone travelling on business or for pleasure and will definately ask my travel agent book it next time I am in Riga.

“Superb luxury close to old town”

It was our first visit to Riga and only stayed 2 nights so we chose this hotel because it was new and 10 minutes walk from the old town. We booked through Ryanair.com and got a big discount. The staff are great, and although we had a few problems, the service we received was professional and efficient. The first room has a TV which stopped working after 20 minutes, so we were moved to a room on the 7th floor, but the AC control didn't work so it was very hot all night. The electrician couldn't fix it quickly so we were moved again to the 8th floor, and then were presented with a free bowl of fruits, and two complimentary drinks vouchers in their bar. The rooms and large and very comfortable, and with a lot of rooms facing inwards to the central area, there was no traffic noise outside. The breakfast room was busy but served a good choice of food and a chef to prepare you fresh eggs. The hotel is 300 metres from the beautiful Orthodox church, and 10 minutes walk from the old town and railway station. The Red taxis are normally always waiting in front of the hotel. They charge 10 latis/15 euros hotel to airport. Do not use the white taxis which charged us 15 latis from the airport, although to be fair, it is not too big a price for the 20 minute ride compared to some cities. The old city generally is clean and very little litter, and we never got mugged; the people were great. Thanks again to the hotel staff.
