“Many centuries at one place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

I was happily surprised when I visited Cesis Castle after so many years. It is a great opportunity to visit two towers from different centuries in one attraction. The first one is in the old Medieval castle which you can enjoy with candle lantern in your hand, the other is part of the renovated New Castle from 18th century.

“Nice to spend a day in this city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013

The gardens surrounding the castle are well kept and cater for children. The entry for the castle is a bit steep and should only be paid if you have the time to enjoy it properly.

“Do not miss this!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013 via mobile

I have now visited 5 castles in the Baltic states and this has been the most authentic. Much of the castle is gone but one tower has been protected with a new roof and is accessible via an original spiral stone staircase which you climb with the aid of the provided candle lantern. As you climb you pass floors with original vaulted ceilings and finally the roof of the tower.
Fabulous experience and set in a beautiful park

“Medieval Castle”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

The castle is a ruin of the 13th Century Order of the Knights Castle. It is also the birthplace of the latvian flag.
Worth to see it.

“Fascinating place to explore”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 8, 2013

The Castle is a well preserved feature of the lovely city of Cesis close to Gauja National Park. Fascinating to visit , particularly as its going darker with candle lamps. Some of the steps are a bit of a challenge in the towers but worth the climb for the views. The city of Cesis was the birthplace of the Latvian flag and the museum in he newer part of the castle is interesting too. If you want to see what Cesis did with their Lenin Starue its in a stone container in the grounds. The Castle Park is used as a venue for Cesis Arts Festival in the summer.
