Located in downtown Tallinn, Von Krahli Aed is a culinary experience worth visiting, even if your just popping in for a day. Getting an ex tempore place can be tricky thou, since it has become a rather popular place. Our group got 5 seats without reservation, but that might have been luck.
Like most of the medieval-themed restaurants and cafes in the Old Town district, this is a quaint and cozy place with a fantastic and palpable atmosphere of old rustic stonewalls and memorabilia. The downstairs is perfect for a small (4-5 people) group or couples who want to get some alone time. Customer service is great; the staff was friendly and the service was quick.
The food and menu is apparently seasonal and the winter menu consisted of duck, chicken, lamb and fish to name a few. The dishes look fantastic and they are delicious. I can personally recommend the duck in red wine sauce; soft and tender with a sweet caramelized apple sauce on top. As for the desert, there's actually only one choice; cake, all homemade. Either go for the pure chocolate cake with perfect mint ice cream and berries or the cheese cake. Be prepared thou, the slices are big. But both options are the perfect ending for an otherwise excellent culinary experience in Tallinn Old Town. And your wallet loves it too; main courses and desserts for 5 people (with one glass of wine each) went for under 100 euros.
