I could hear through the wall to the room on one side, but otherwise it was the perfect place to relax. Great breakfast spread in beautiful dining rooms.
Excellent location just two blocks away from the main square in Old Town, but still in a quiet street. We got upgraded to a Junior Suite so cannot really speak for the standard rooms, but our suite was very spacious and clean, and even had its own private sauna. The beds were very comfortable and the room was quiet.
The building itself had lots of historical atmosphere and had been renovated with style. Decoration in the rooms could have been more suitable to the environment, the furniture seemed a bit pick & mixed from different styles of antiques. However it was all functional. Breakfast was not the most sumptious I have ever seen, but adequate.
The only negatives would be the lack of elevator (for those with lots of luggage or poor health) and the fact that parts of the building had a bit of a funny damp smell to it. Apart from that, we were quite happy with our stay at St Olav's.
Overall, a nice atmospheric hotel with an excellent price-quality ratio.
The location of St Olav's is perfect, on a quieter street of Old Town yet only a couple of steps away from everything. Standard room was spotlessly clean. Breakfast was ok (not amazing but not bad either). We booked the day before and got a good room rate (compared to rates given on the hotel website we paid about 30 euros less per night). With this rate I would definitely stay in this hotel again but would ask for a room that's not facing the street - we could hear people talking and walking on the street as if they would have been in the room. So windows could use some more isolation, it was also a bit chilly in the room but that was solved with an extra heater that filled it's purpose. All in all it is a nice hotel with it's own, old labyrinthine charm!
First of all, the location of St Olav is great. It's in the middle of Old Town with a minute or two to Town Hall Square. This in combination with a decent price, is a good reason to stay here.
However, we experienced that the walls of our room were extremely thin. Sound traveled very easily between the rooms. Moreover, we stayed at the ground floor towards the courtyard, and unfortunately the cleaning ladies were hanging outside our window at all times smoking, which became annoying after a while.
The breakfast buffet was good , served in a beautiful dining room, and included in the room rate. The rooms were clean, charming and spaceous enough, but again, thicker walls wouldn't hurt...
We don't have many bad things to say about St Olav Hotel. In fact when I think it trough, the only thing is the thin walls. And even that didn't bother us because we got an attic room (in the top floor) and the last room in the hall so we had only one neighbour. Oh yes, and they didn't have an elevator so if you don't like climing lots of stairs I don't recommend this hotel to you. It didn't bother us at all.
The positive things:
+ great breakfast (lots of everything)
+ helpful and english speaking staff
+ nice old style decoration
+ awesome location in the old town
+ clean rooms
+ nice bathroom
+ CHEAP! We paid only 55 €/night for double room
