“Very Average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2014

Myself and a friend stayed here for 4 nights for a city break. When we arrived in our room, we noticed there was a very strong smell of urine in the bathroom. We went and told reception who were embarrassed, apologetic and moved us immediately. The new room was fine although the bathrooms are very basic and a little shabby. However, the bedrooms are really lovely and the beds are very comfortable. The breakfast was pretty good, although there is more choice for more European travellers (cheese, meat, salads etc) than British travellers. The location of the hotel is good; it is very close to the old town but also in proximity to the new town and bus station.

Downfalls - no safes in the rooms. There were safes in reception but these required a €16 deposit and there was a €3.50 daily charge. This was very disappointing to us as we expected to be able to protect our belongings for free. Also, the free wifi did not cover our room - despite the fact we were told it would, our devices could not find the connection. Finally, there was no kettle in the room to make drinks which was disappointing.

All in all, this hotel is a decent budget hotel in a good location. With this hotel, you get what you pay for.

Room Tip: There is a karaoke bar downstairs so I would ask for a room on the opposite side it that

If you are traveling by ferry, Metropol Hotel is conveniently located near the harbour. The surroundings are not that attractive, but you are not far from Viru Square and the Old Town. If you are on a budget, you get an ok value for your money – rooms are clean and in a pretty good condition. But if you are traveling in the summer, note that there is no air conditioning in the regular rooms, and at least for us the room got a bit too warm. Also, rooms have small old cathode ray TV's, which is to me is strange since it looks like they have been renovating the rooms just a few years ago.

A minus is also that although we booked a double room, they were only able to give us a room with twin beds. Service at the front desk is a little distant (but that's normal in Tallinn), breakfast was satisfactory discounting the fact that they do not serve orange juice (an all time first for me) and the staff does not control who takes what from the luggage storage, so don't leave valuables there.

Room Tip: The quietest rooms are on the high floors of the east side.

Just ten minutes walk from the port and another ten from the Old Town, we found this hotel well priced to suit our needs. It is used by tour groups and business people as well as independent travellers so things run very smoothly and efficiently. Reception staff were pleasant and our room on the 4th floor was good for our needs. The room rate includes access to the morning sauna session daily and on the day we used it, had it to ourselves. Breakfast is continental with plenty to choose from and this kept us going till lunchtime. We ate in the hotel one evening and enjoyed a tagliatelle with prawns & salmon plus a tasty desert which for both of us with a soft drink came in at under 30euros.

Room Tip: 504 is on the back of the hotel so quieter. Our room had a heated shower room which helped dry our c...

We stayed with my band there for couple of nights cos we were filming a music video,we wanted something cheap n close to the center so this hotel is that. Food in room service was very good and cheap.rooms were poor with mega old tvs, felt like abit strange to have so old tvs in 2014!hotel has nice karaoke bar and lounge bar also.service was ok, but maybe not the best due to that usually estonian service is very friendly.beds were ok.

Arrived early but no problem checking in. Nice room on 5th floor and was quiet for me. The staff were helpful and friendly. The bar was cheap for a quickie. I stumbled into the karaoke bar late one night and it is frequented mainly by Finnish party groups. Yeah you are going to meet some drunks and prostitutes but that is old, style Tallinn for you. Some bars nearby are a bit dodgy but walk in and walk out. Hotel only 5mins walk to old town and safe to walk around.Hopefully I will visit Tallinn again and would stay in this hotel.

The biggest downside of this hotel was the noise constantly woken up by people walking past room with loud voices, had banging on door one night obviously drunk and trying to get in wrong room. Even worse outside there is a strip joint at ground level open till 6am, opposite a pub,and a snooker hall, next door a hostel, and ground floor karaoke bar open till 3am.

This was all a great shame as qualityof hotel is fine, evening meals are excellent and to be recommended, please try one. Quite central plenty of bars, clubs etc within walking distance, also plenty of taxis.

Would not stay again due to noise problems

Room Tip: Ask for a room that is quiet

If you book room from this hotel, you get value for money. There's good place to park your car, quite big room and breakfast you find enough to all to start new day in Tallinn. Location is also good to shopping or visit to old town etc.
