“Lived up to its reputation!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 20, 2013

We have never visited Tallinn and were relying on Trip Advisor to point us in the right direction for the right price. Hotel Bern totally lived up to its reputation. Check in was easy (we were early and rooms were ready), location was great (less than 15 minutes walking from the ferry), staff were friendly and very helpful with recommendation. We reserved two rooms (family of four) which they located right next to each other. Beds were comfortable and the air conditioning was welcome as the weather was a little warm. I especially appreciated the staff recommendation for dining. We found out the "tourist atmosphere" of Tallinn can be a little overwhelming. People are competitive for your business, handing out coupons and trying to get you to eat at their restaurant. When I asked a recommendation we were sent to "Lieb" (another top recommendation from Trip Advisor). It was excellent, great atmosphere, without the tourist trap feel. Thanks to the front desk for the tip!

Breakfast had a good assortment of foods. The only caution I would offer is DON'T be even close to late. The blonde with a pony tail starts clearing up the food 10 minutes BEFORE breakfast is over. They were kind enough to provide me a plate to take food up to the room for my wife who was sleeping late.

For the price, I can't imagine a nicer place to stay. Good location, excellent rates, very clean, and front desk staff exceeds expectations.

We arrived late to a warm welcome and were quickly checked in, The room was comfortable and clean. The bathroom was fine - compact. The breakfast was typical continental with cold meats, fish & fruit- absolutely fine,
The night club mentioned by a few reviewers , was in fact a beer hall - which had large TVs and a good range of beer and food. We never found this to be noisy on our return at night.
Hotel Bern offered a great location with which to explore old Town and afforded a retreat away from the crowds . We were very happy with the accommodation and would stay here again ,.

Room Tip: We had a room at the back which looked on to a building & car park behind- quiet. I asked for th...

We arrived by ferry and was able to walk about 20 min to reach the hotel. It is right across the street from the grocery store and about a 2 minute walk to old town shopping/café street where all the action is. The hotel is probably a 2*. The staff was very helpful. They helped us with our getting around the city. Two nights while here there were Russian child staying who got out of control and were noisy at night. The hotel was very upset and was going to talk to the teacher. Everything is within walking distance from the KGB museum about 5 min, renting bikes about 5 min and shopping and restaurants the same. The best way to see the city is just get out and walk. We visited all the sites on our own and did not use any tours. Breakfast was adequate but after 3 days we were ready to leave for a change in menu. The breakfast room was managed with full trays and hot coffee. There was always choices though.

Room Tip: Small reasonable priced hotel.

Nice, unfussy hotel just outside the old city. Comfortable room, great breakfast, helpful staff. Young desk personnel were very nice about helping with restaurant and tour reservations. Recommend this hotel to anyone. Very pleasant stay!

4 of us {2 couples} stayed 3 nights 10-12 May.
Hotel was in an excellent location, rooms adequate and spotlessly clean.
Very friendly receptionists, a special mention for Heidi, who's help in obtaining a wheelchair {my wife had recently broken her ankle} really helped with enjoying our stay.
Breakfast was very good, with plenty of choice.
Don't miss a visit to the TV Tower restaurant, excellent food and service and what a view !!
Would not hesitate to recomend this hotel, or the city of Tallinn for a short break, it was brilliant.

I cannot praise the reception staff highly enough - the daytime receptionist deserves a medal, although she would say she was only doing her job. From dealing with the trauma of a lost wallet, to clear and knowledgeable directions to obscure locations around the city, and finally going online for me so that she could print off my boarding passes for my return flights, she was unfailingly friendly and helpful. Excellent breakfasts, with a really good choice of fresh foods and comfortable rooms with good facilities. The downside is that rooms which face the courtyard are opposite the entrance to a late night bar and can be noisy.

Room Tip: Ask for one which doesn't overlook the courtyard.

As well as being perfectly located in relation to the Old Town, the port and the bus station, this hotel was clean and quiet and staff went the extra mile to be helpful, even as far as offering to provide a breakfast box when we had an early departure on our last day and providing a kettle in our room.
The daily breakfast was served in the nice restaurant and consisted of everything one could possibly want. A supermarket directly across the road and a swimming pool/spa/sauna at the end of the street fulfilled all our needs. I have no hesitation in recommending the Bern Hotel to anyone.
