“Amazing staff and great location.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2012

I booked for one night and I enjoyed so much the homely atmosphere that the staff created there that I ended up staying for four nights. All of the staff I found to be so open, honest and fun to be around. They all could not have been more helpful. The dorm room, kitchen, seating area and shower room were adequate to my needs as a sole traveler on a budget and they were kept clean daily. I had such a beautiful experience hanging out with some of the staff there that we went on trips around the city and I have to say honestly that I felt like we were old friends.
"When you come with an open heart you most certainly will be received with an open heart."
It is the people that make a place special and I am already planning my next trip back.

Stayed here for 2 nights and loved the location right on middle of old town Tallinn. It's fairly safe as well with buzzer entry and 24h reception. Kitchen was well stocked but a mess. Common room is small. Room had dampness on ceiling, bed wasn't great either and window wouldn't shut properly. The communal showers were terrible to the point that if someone else was using one the rest won't work.

Booked through Tallinn Backpackers but got sent here instead, the stay itself was ok, we got a locker to put our stuff in, but there was a guy who was snoring super loud the entire night (well, he left the hostel to party at 11PM, so from whenever he came back I guess), so sleeping wasn't good. What's worse is that I have bites from bed bugs or some kind of allergic reaction to their bedding or sheets, and now my arms, legs all have swollen marks and is itching like crazy. It would've been an ok stay except for the crazy itching that I am still suffering from...

The hostel is a total fiasco... It was better three years ago when the owner was a nice Russian woman who took care of the hostel, made sure that everything is clean and the bedding is fresh.
Now, however, the hostel has totally changed... there are some weird Mexicans working at the hostel, totally incompetent with the clients.
The worst thing that I was about to see was waiting for me in the room.
They say that everything that is included in the price (i. e. towels, sheets etc...) is already in the room. Notwithstanding that, the only thing you'll find is a duvet, pillow and a duvet cover, nothing else. I assume they expect people to sleep on that filthy mattress.
I understand that one can't expect any sort of luxury for that money, but c'mon! At least they
could keep the hostel clean and give provide people with some usual stuff like bedding.

There are plenty of other cheap hostels in Tallinn. I sincerely recommend you all to spend more time for finding a good hostel rather than staying at the Old Town Alur...

Of course, this is only my personal opinion but just so you know, the hostel is a total disaster! :(

I was on backpacking-holiday in september 2011 and arrived in Tallinn from Helsinki by boat. The Hostel is really easy to reach from the harbor (I used the Tallink ferries) and located in the old Tallinn (it's awesome!). Thus, the building is historical but in a well shape. the staff was really friendly and in general the Hostel was pretty good.
I slept in a comfortable and quiet 4bads room at the 3rd floor (the maximum of the building). my friend had a two bads room: unfortunately one of the two broke down and because of that the staff discounted half of the price to them (the hostel was full so they had to sleep in that room). there was a single bathroom on the level. it was poor looking but efficient.
The common room was relaxing with a fair number of sofas.
on the negative said: half of the staff in the kitchen was broken!!!!!
not bad at all if you do not need to use the kitchen!

If you're out for a jolly in Tallinn and just wasnt somewhere with a good location to sleep in, this hostel would be ideal. It's got plenty of room and a minutes walk from the old town square. The bedrooms are ok, but there arn't too many toilets and showers. It's a great place to meet up with other travellers and have a good time (we played a jenga drinking game in the common room). It's also got lots of posters for different activities if you're intrested in that. If you're looking for a quiet place to stay with a family or couple, I would advise you to look elsewhere, but otherwise this place would do nicely.

Went to Tallinn to celebrate my 26th Bday. Stayed at Alur hostel and must say had a FANTASTIC time. Was traveling by myself and ended up meeting many people here. 100 points for having the big kitchen and living room which gives you the chance to socialize. Staff was really friendly and made sure to have pub crawl daily. As a person who enjoys traveling, Tallinn was one of the most enjoyable experiences I have had so far. I definitely recommend this Hostel !
