The hotel is easy to find, even for first time visitors, from the airport bus no.2 runs every half hour to the port. Get off at the city centre A. Laikmaa, walk on to the junction and turn left into Narva Street, the hotel is 2 minutes walk on the left.
We found the staff to be very friendly and helpful and they had got us exactly the type of room we had requested in our email, quiet, non-smoking etc. The first thing we had to ask them for was additional pillows as they are almost non-existent, but despite it being 7.30pm on a Saturday evening, 2 pillows arrived within 10 minutes!
The bathroom was not brilliant as it only had a corner shower cubicle which always flooded, however the towels were soft and white and changed every day.” Toiletries” means the all in one dispenser of shampoo/shower gel, on the wall, but shower caps were supplied.
There was some noise at night from the bathroom next door, but not too bad. The water sometimes took a very long time to run hot, but we were on the top floor. Don’t expect a wonderful view from the window – our City View room overlooked the car park, but it WAS lovely and quiet at night.
Breakfast was amazing. The choice was exceptional for a 3 star hotel and included smoked salmon as well as the standard cold meats and cheeses in the cold buffet and proper baked beans with the hot buffet as well as all the standard fare. The porridge looked nice too and there was always fresh fruit as well as cereals, fruit cocktail, yogurt and a good selection of bread and rolls. The coffee was really good and so was the fruit juice. Altogether, a splendid start to the day.
There is free internet in the lobby, but it is only one machine which you have to stand at to use and it’s quite popular, so if you really want good access bring your laptop as there is free wireless internet everywhere in the hotel.
There is a hypermarket 5 minutes walk from the hotel. Go out of the back and cross the car park and you will see a mall ahead. There is also a very good wine and spirits shop almost next door. Beware though; you cannot buy any booze from a shop after 8.00pm!
Another huge plus point, there is an ice machine on the 5th floor, right by the lift.
My top tips are to avoid the weekend (Friday and Saturday nights) as Tallinn fills up with stag and hen groups and the whole character of the place changes for the worse. Also, take a day trip on one of the fast ferries to Helsinki. It’s so different to Tallinn and well worth a look while you are so near.
Peppersak seemed to be the best value for a medieval meal (complete with sword fight staged on the stairs and belly dancer!), which was very entertaining and the food was good too. In general, we found it to be quite expensive in comparison to London.
There is plenty to see and do in Tallin, we were there for a week, which was just about right, but I would definitely go back and stay at the Reval Central Hotel.
The restored old town has amazing views from the top near the Alexander Nevski Cathedral, also a must to visit.
