5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013

You cannot beat the location of the exquisite hotel and it is very reasonably priced for a 5 star. We booked a deluxe and were upgraded to a junior suite (304) on the corner overlooking the well in the square. Lovely and quiet and the room itself was enormous by European standards. The breakfast was excellent. Recommended.

Fantastic location, right in the heart of the old town but on a little quiet square just around the corner from the Raojoka square (main square). Short walking distance to all major sites.

Lovely staff who spoke perfect English.

Plush room which was spacious and had lovely furniture and high ceilings. It had a fridge and a safe which was great. Bathroom was great with all the frills of a 5 star hotel. The wifi in the room was great and free.

The cold breakfast was excellent quality and plenty of variety and they took your order for hot breakfast where you had a choice of porridge, eggs and pancakes.

Could not have asked for better. Had such a lovely stay. Highly recommend it and would def stay here again.

The interior of the hotel could not be faulted - comfortable beds, attention to detail such as good quality toiletries, water & chocolate delivered at night, weather forecast given every night. However, the location is such that we were directly opposite a noisy bar with the room vibrating with the bass until 11.30! Like a previous reviewer, could not close windows, as no air con, and it was stifling. Eventually begged a fan from the staff and put up with heat. Unfortunately we were there for a Friday & Saturday evening, which meant the bars were at their most active, also late night returners in the early hours, which of course the hotel has no control over.

Why was the room painted battleship grey??

On reflection, it would have been better to have booked an hotel on the outskirts of Old Town, and walked in. Tallinn is pretty small, and most things can be walked to. We visited 2 museums - the Occupation Museum, which we found really interesting and which filled in the gaps of our history knowledge of Estonia. Also the Seaplane Museum, about 20 mins walk away. Spanking new, very imaginatively put together with lots of interactive stuff for kids. Worth the trip even if you're not really into boats!

Room Tip: Ask for room at front of hotel on 3rd floor.

We spent 2 days in Tallinn. So we choose an hotel located in the old city. The hotel is very well located. It is in an old building but well maintained. The room are nicely decorated but they are very dark. We had a room on the first floor with a very small window. It was an accessible room but we did not request one so the bathroom was huge but not adapted for us. The breakfast was very nice. You have the buffet available but you can also request dishes from the menu. Just across the street, there is a great restaurant called Rataskaevu 16. Don't miss it but you should reserve a table ahead.

I thought the decor of this hotel was really harming and unique. The hotel is right in the middle of the beautiful old town yet both of our rooms were quiet. We booked two deluxe rooms and one was noticeably bigger than the other (the one on the ground floor). However, both were big for European hotels and more than comfortable.

The staff were excellent and gave us lots of advice and help. When we mentioned our plans to the porter the receptionist called us about 5 minutes later to offer extra advice.

Breakfast was fantastic and beds were comfortable.

The only downside is that there's no air conditioning as the building is rather old. We had portable fans in our rooms but did find ourselves waking up once in the night, finding the room a bit stuffy. We were there in July so it was quite hot. At most times of the year I imagine it is an incredibly cosy hotel to return to!

Taxi cost from cruise ship was about €25 due to the traffic at the harbour. A taxi transfer to the bus station (if you want to see more of Estonia) was about €10. We recommend Parnu in summer and heard Tartu is worth a visit. Both are about 2 hrs away. Coach tickets can be booked online.

Overall a lovely stay!

4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

My wife and I stayed here with two friends in early August 2013, to celebrate our 36th wedding anniversary. The hotel was excellent and perfectly situated to explore old Tallinn. There is no lift so climbing the stairs to the third floor was a bit tiring, and the noise from the street between midnight and the wee hours was a nuisance. By closing the windows one could completely eliminate the noise, but then the heat became a factor as there is no air conditioning to speak of. But the decor and the comfort of the room was lovely, and the Nevskii restaurant was brilliant, and terrific value for money (four course meal, four star cuisine, for €43 per person, plus wine).
If you're inclined to, try the sauna which is very well appointed. Just make sure it's kept switched on! (The controller is in the ante-room area).

Room Tip: Close the windows to keep the street noise out!

This was a great hotel, comfortable, clean and in a perfect location right in the Old City. But what really stands out in my mind (writing this review a month after I travelled there) was the excellent, friendly and helpful service. In particular, the waiter who served in the outside restaurant area was outstanding - right there almost before you knew you wanted something, and never there when you wanted peace and privacy. The food was fantastic too!
