Owner description: This jumble of 14th- and 15th-century architecture with its medieval walls, needling spires and twisting, cobblestone streets is also the site of many of the city's important historic attractions and museums including the House of the Brotherhood of the Blackheads, St. Catherine's Guild and the 15th-century Guildhall that now houses the History Museum.

“Fabulous old town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2013

We walked from our cruise ship as we got side tracked by the tourist shops in the port and missed the shuttle start point. We didn't have much idea of what we wanted to see so just strolled around. Make sure that you go to the viewing platform for a fantastic view and St.Nicholas (no longer a church and has toilets) which has some very interesting artefacts including some advice to princes and priests of their limited time on this earth....not for the squeamish.

When people say cobbled streets read boulders. There is nothing regular about these stones and very hard going in places.

“Quaint Town”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 26, 2013

Tallinn is a quiet and cute port town with many cruise ship visitors. We were in Tallinn for a few hours and decided not to do an excursion and simply explore the town on our own. Tallinn’s charm lies in the fact that it isn’t built-up and remains quaint and picturesque. If you’re in Tallinn as part of a Baltic cruise, plan to do your shopping in this city. The Baltics are very expensive (especially St. Petersburg) and you can buy most of your souvenirs here using euros instead of having to deal with the hassle of exchanging money into rubles. Tallinn offers a good selection of Matryoshka dolls, Christmas ornaments, and amber at good prices. As is the case with all souvenirs, quality and authenticity varies, but, overall, you get more for your money in this port city.

Still maintains all its old world charms. The central square is fantastic and has restaurants a plenty.

“if you only have a little time in Tallinn this is what to do”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2013

I was in Tallinn for a 2-day business related meeting so did not have much time to look around. But walking around the old town makes you feel part of the city, like an old timer there, like you know this place so well. Beautiful organized, accessible (emotionally, as in "open"!), friendly. The art and craft shops are a must visit and the multiple cafes and restaurants with the blankets on the chairs simply invite you in. Must must must visit.

“come by cruise ?”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 25, 2013

Don't bother paying for a trip to the old town if you don't mind a gentle walk. We got the free shuttle into the centre and walked the old walled town. Very pretty and the view from the top is great. Its an expensive shopping location. A pint of local and a bottle of water...about 6 euros. Places to see are the square and the castle at the top.
