“Get the attic apartment if you can”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2013 via mobile

Cozy living, apartment with wifi and quite, nestled location. We used all three single beds and everyone had plenty of space. Kitchen was well stocked. We really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this joint while in Estonia.

My friends and I stayed in the beautiful Old Chapel Apartment in October of 2007 - and we still remember it as one of our favourite accommodation stays. When we arrived at the gates, we gave the, a call and they appeared just a minutes later to let us in and show us around. It's a gorgeous old stone apartment, with three levels and ample space for 4 people. It has a sauna, which we used and was great; it has it's own kitchen, which was also great, because it gets too much eating out all the time; and a computer with internet (though at the time we were there it was a little slow). It's location - right in the centre of old town - is also something you really can't beat. Love it and would definitely stay there again!

Room Tip: Old Chapel Apartment!

After a stress free journey (thank you Easy Jet and the prompt & courteous bus driver of the Airport bus), we arrived at the gated apartments, and I called the owner, as he had requested, upon arrival and he was with us within 5 mins.
This is an incredibly old building (14th century) that has been refurbished to fairly high standards, including free wi-fi and a computer to use, but retaining all the charm of the original building.
The novelty of staying in such an old place was lovely (far better than a boring hotel room with paper thin walls) and we were more than happy just to enjoy the atmosphere of this secluded building as well as enjoying the delights of the town.

Great apartment in a great location. Definitely not a typical hotel, but that is what made it so nice. Our room had it's own kitchen which gave us more freedom. We planned to cook, but there were so many reasonably priced restaurants nearby, we never did. The stone walls of the building provide excellent insulation from all noise. Also, because of the stone walls, a dehumidifier is provided - perfect for me and my allergies! The only downside we had was there was no mention of needing to call the owner when we arrived. There is a gate to the courtyard and the owner is not onsite. Our mobile was not connecting to a network, so we ended up having to go to a nearby hotel to have them call her. Everything worked out, but was a bit frustrating in the rain.

The historic building at the heart of the Old Town offered a pleasant stay for two nights. Despite the very central location in the middle of the tourist zone the room was very quiet since the building is in the inner court. Only the loudly slamming front door broke the silence.

The furnitures are not the most charming ones, but we didn't find it a big issue. The room was clean, the kitchen covered all the basic functions and the bathroom was, well, as it should be - it lacked nothing but was nothing special.

The baby carriage seemed to be a challenge at first as the Stable Chamber is on the first floor and the spiral stairs are very narrow and steep. The helpful owner gave us an extra key to their ground-floor "office" where we could storage the baby carriage when ever we wanted. We also had a bed for our six-month old baby.

Just returned from a weekend stay in the Monk's Chamber. I'm not sure what the previous reviewer is talking about; whether or not that reviewer stayed the weekend prior to our arrival, I sorry to say that I cannot agree at all with her/his assessment of this particular apartment.

Let me be clear from the start that these apartments are ideally located and that this review is for the Monk's Chamber apartment, just one of the apartments in the Kuninga Apartments.

Many images may arise for one when reading the room name, 'Monk's Chamber'. Regardless of what you think of the pictures presented of this apartment - posted in black and white in a way that I now think was cleverly deliberate - this is not a charming place conducive to quite reflection or creating a romantic or nostalgic living quarters. Instead, conjure an image of a musty, stone cellar (truthfully, it's a ground-floor apartment) outfitted with the least attractive Ikea furniture imaginable. You will find the advertised 'high vaulted ceilings' in one area of this apartment, but the rest of the ceiling space might be negotiable for a monk during the times when, one might say, 'people were smaller'. The bed itself is not uncomfortable, but the comforter upon it was quite dirty, though not as dirty as the throw-pillows at the foot of the bed. And this reflected the general cleanliness of the apartment.

But these are not the worst or even bad elements of an apartment located most centrally in the charming city of Tallinn. The Monk's chamber is on the ground level, and during the days of our stay we learned that the security system for the apartment does not function. There is no alarm and no secure place to leave valuables while out seeing the sights. What more? We didn't, but we got it: In the back of this small apartment you will find the door (more like a hatch) to the basement. This door, which did not locked on either side, lead to a staircase that descended into the basement of the building (which we did not explore, of course). And if it were necessary to continue this negative post, I could turn to the bathroom, which was quite the adventure given the way the shower was constructed and situated.

I usually don't rant too negatively in this forum. These features of this establishment, however, not only are unacceptable, but they also were, I thought, misrepresented by the proprietor. I will admit that the manager of the property (with whom you make reservations and from whom you collect the keys, etc.) was personable enough and even suggested alternative storage spaces to compensate for the failed security system, but she did not disclose the peculiar door to the basement. Stay here for the location, please, but do not stay in the Monk's Chamber.
