Owner description: In Soviet time Hotel Viru was good enough to accommodate foreigners. It also had to be good enough for the KGB ... The museum represents a collection of the stories of two worlds. In one of them, mostly existing on paper, happy Soviet people enjoyed a life of plenty and friendship, led by a single wise political party. The other world – the real one – had a nature much more diverse and complicated.

“Brilliant Place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2013

One of the best museums we have visited. Situated on the secret 23rd floor of the Sokos Hotel.

The guide Kristie made it extra special with her boundless enthusiasm. A real treat

“Very interesting, a unique insight to the soviet era in Estonia.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 13, 2013

I guess we've all watched movies about the Cold War era and we all think we know how it worked within the soviet block. So, in many ways, what the guide has to tell you is no real shock. However, she furnishes details about life in Estonia in those days and how people worked with and around the system. I got a real feel for what the people put up with and how they didn't lose hope of being reunited with the western work despite the fact that this isn't really what the tour is meant to be focused on. The guide is very knowledgable and speaks fluent English. Situated on the top floor of the Sokos hotel you should reserve a place on the tour at the hotel reception desk. €8 for non Sokos guests, well worth the time and effort.

“Great tour of the KGB story”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2013 via mobile

Do not miss this small museum on the "hidden" top floor of the VIRU hotel. A great collection of surveliance equipment and photos describing life at the hotel. Difficult to understand that this was Tallin only 40 years ago. Thank you to the guide who new everything about the place - we enjoyed the tour very much.

“A very nice tour with a great scenery”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2013

I really liked the tour and the guide was just so good. She told us about the history really lively and well. We had a great sunny day so I got some good photos from up there. We had kids with us and It's great for a little bit older kids like over 10. Our smallest did not get lot out of it
