“Fashionable stay in a historical building”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2012

Well located Hotel in the Old Town in Vilnius. Staff very accomodating and a beautiful building, which makes one forget about the small insignificant flaws. Our room was towards a somewhat noisy street, but close the windows and put on the air-con and a good night's sleep is secured. Breakfast was average, but still one of the better we have experienced in Lithuania. Have to mention the staff which makes you feel like being in a 5 star hotel. Recommendable.

This is an interesting hotel ,developed from a renovated monastery . During the Soviet period, the building was left to deteriorate. It is now an attractive, modern series of buildings grouped around a pretty garden and courtyard. The reception area has a display of photographs detailing the stages in the transformation of the building. The position of this hotel is excellent, at the edge of the old town of Vilnius. It is overlooked by an impressive Orthodox Church and is just round the corner from the spectacular St Anne`s Church and the Bernardine Church.
Staff are very friendly and you are greeted by one of a small team of men who carry your bags to your room. This is an essential service as there are no lifts and in our case we were allocated a third floor room. The double room was quite spacious with a reasonable sized bathroom containing the all important full sized bath. The third floor rooms have two roof windows only so we did not have a view ,which was a pity. However, there were tea and coffee making facilities and full room service.
The restaurant is advertised as a steak restaurant. We tried it and enjoyed our meal outside in the lovely garden. There are various items on the menu in addition to steaks . We enjoyed the meal and the steak was fantastic. This restaurant doubles as a breakfast bar and again meals can be eaten outside or in. The buffet was good but the range of cold and hot food on offer was slightly limited. Disappointingly, instant coffee only was on offer. Real coffee was available but at an extra charge.
Vilnius is a fascinating city and there are some beautiful Catholic churches. It is a relatively quiet city compared with Tallinn and Riga.

Room Tip: Ask for one of the first floor room looking into the courtyard.

We stayed 4 nights in Mabre Recidence in june -12, and has a very nice stay. The hotel is clean, with spacious rooms, and a beautiful garden inside. Next time I will ask for a room that overlooks the garden,as I believe they are more quiet than them out towards the town. All in all a very confortable hotel, with lots of charme.
The staff in reception were all helpful, polite, with a glimse in the eye and very service-minded.

Room Tip: We chose a deluxe-room, in 3 floor. (top floor.) Big livingroom, but next time I maybe take an orden...

I enjoyed staying at the Mabre Residence. The hotel deserves its 4 stars and is value for money. Though breakfast was not offering great variety of choices, it was tasty and not crowded in the restaurant. The hotel has only 40 rooms, so even if it is fully booked (as I experienced), it still remains quiet and pleasant.
Location is good for tourist travellers as well - 5 minutes walking to the city centre and app 15 to the shopping area.
I would not suggest dining at the hotel restaurant, though, since there are plenty of great places in the neighborhood and way cheaper (food is amasingly cheap in Lithuania). Try local meals or pick up some common dishes - you may find nearly whatever you want in 5-10 min walk from the hotel.
The personnel is really helpful speaking at least 4 languages (Lithuanian, English, Polish, Russian), and with a very friendly attitude. They will advise you on sightseeing, post your postcards to friends&family, order a taxi to the airport and railwaystation (be wise and pay at the hotel, you may do that with a credit card), and take all the possible care of your stay. I would highly recommend Mabre Residence.

The Mabre Residence is a comfortable, traditional hotel located on the edge of the Old Town. The staff are helpful and welcoming, speaking several languages. The hotel comprises a group of old buildings surrounding a courtyard which serves as outdoor dining and bar space, but it is also the hotel car park, which means that it's not as peaceful as it could be, and your romantic dinner under the stars can be spoilt by diesel fumes as taxis come and go and late-night guests arrive!

Our room was a Superior Double, and although it was spacious, because it was located under the eaves of the top floor, most of the space was unusable, especially for anyone tall. It was also decorated in a very dark style, and as the windows were small this meant that we had to have the lights on during the day in order to read. It was very stuffy - although there is an aircon unit in the room, this was noisy so we preferred to leave the windows open and suffer the traffic noise from the very busy road outside.

The room was clean and comfortable, with TWO televisions, but neither of these showed any English language programmes, which is unusual in a hotel of this standard. The bathroom was on the small side, although perfectly adequate, but there was only one small wardrobe and no chest of drawers, so a couple on a long stay would need to leave things lying around. Business travellers would find the work space limited.

We ate in the hotel's restaurant on one occasion; the food is expensive by Vilnius standards, although very good and the portion sizes are huge; one meal was sufficient for two of us. The breakfast wasn't up to the same standard, and compared with the other Vilnius hotels of this level it was disappointing - tinned fruit, coffee from a machine and a cold 'hot' buffet.

We didn't use the Fitness Centre, but there was an exercise bike and a rowing machine apparently abandoned outside our room - we wondered if these were complementary for guests!

Room Tip: Top floor rooms are likely to be very hot, especially in the summer.

This is a comfortable place to stay if you're a tourist wanting to tour the old town. It's not a 5-star flashy hotel, but it helps you feel like you're in the old town.

Location
It's adjacent to the Russian Orthodox Church and the old town. It's right on the edge of the old town within a 10 minute walk of everything. It's two minutes to the shopping street, 5 minutes from town hall and 7 minutes from the castle.

Front Desk
Fast, friendly. My room wasn't available but they checked my bags, gave me a map and helped me navigate where I needed to go.

Laundry
I got there around noon. The 5-star hotels I have been staying in couldn't do my laundry past 10 in the morning. The front desk here happily took my laundry. It was done by 8am the next morning and it was 25% the price of the 5-star places.

Grounds
It's an old monastery so you can walk around and look at it. The road next to it is dedicated to poets which is pretty cool. It doesn't have 5-star shine. It's more like a historic building that hasn't been sanitized and hasn't lost it's charm.

Wifi
Free wifi all over the complex. Had spotty coverage in my room, but it worked well downstairs.

Restaurant
Free breakfast with a large choice of buffet items including fresh fruit. Not the best buffet ever but better than most "continental" buffets.

Room
I was on the top floor in one of those attic rooms. I'm tall and had no problems. The room was clean. Probably last updated 10 years ago. It has clean modern tile in the bathroom -- not granite or marble, but you're not paying for that either.

View
I had a view from my room. It was of the church nearby. It was glorious on a blue sky day.

Sleep
Had a great sleep here.

Showers
Strong, hot shower.

Price
Very affordable. I paid about US$95 which seemed like a great deal.

Yuri
Ok, so the best asset of this hotel is "Yuri" the bellman. He takes your bags, carries them upstairs with a smile. He helped me with directions numerous times, gave me tips on where to go and even helped with my laundry. Yuri is the perfect example of great service. Be sure to say hi and treat him well.

We have stayed at the Mabre Hotel on 4 occasions over the last year and a half, most recently February 2012, and including before and after our wedding last summer. It is always our first choice in Vilnius, due to a great location just off the main street in the Old Town yet far enough away from the crowds on Pilies gatve to feel like a peaceful retreat even on a busy summer's day. The close proximity to the Uzupis district is also another plus.

The hotel comprises several restored historic buildings, including an old monastery. The biggest plus point apart from the building itself, is the beautiful courtyard which serves as a garden, outdoor restaurant and meeting point in summer. The rooms vary somewhat depending on which category you book, some standard rooms are quite small but the superior and luxury rooms are all a good size and some of them are absolutely huge with separate living rooms and/or kitchen corners. These two rooms types are highly recommended!

We have always found the staff to be pleasant and helpful, and the breakfast served in a beautiful old room with an exposed brick work ceiling is always good. The free and fast wireless internet connections is also very useful. Highly recommended to all visitors to Vilnius!

Room Tip: Pay the small amount extra for a Superior or Luxury room, as it is well worth the extra and some sta...
