“An history lesson not to be missed!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2011

The Museum of Genocide Victims was set up on 14 October 1992 and established in the building where plans for deportations and the arrests of peaceful inhabitants, the persecution of opponents and the suppression of the resistance were devised and carried out by Soviet institutions between 1940 and 1991. For the whole Lithuanian nation, this building is a symbol of the 50-year-long Soviet occupation.
From material seized by the KGB during the Soviet period from dissidents, and from citizens sympathising with them: books, underground publications and documents; to a collection consistsing of material brought to the museum by people themselves or collected during deportations: photographs, prayer books and beads, original documents and personal objects.
Not to be missed to complete the history lesson: the KGB prisons and the former execution chamber in the basement.

“Trip to Vilnius”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2011

Great place. Cheaper food, accommodation, drink and lots to see. Watch taxi drivers. They see you coming and do a circular route to obtain more money. Negotiate a price. They all do it!!!

“Lithuanian point of view to the history”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2011

I will not concern politics in this review as points of view to the past in Russia and modern Lithuania are different. Anyway, despite of which point of view you prefer, this museum might be interesting.

It`s located in an old building, where were Gestapo and KGB headquarters during different periods of Lithuanian history. It was real prison for many people till 1991; you can visit chambers on the ground and look how prisoners lived here.

On the first floor exhibition shows the history of liberation movement in Lithuanina, it is that part of exhibition which is under influance of poilitics.

Exhibition on the second floor, in my opinion, is the most interesting. It shows methods of KGB work: a lot of internal documents, stamps, gadgets etc. This part of exhibition is not under influance of politics and is very interesting by itself.

“Best way to see Vilnius”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2010

Visited the KGB musuem with Vilnius Out There who really looked after us. The main thing was that we only had one day in Vilnius and they were able to organise several different activities, including this for us.
