Le Meridien Villon is beautifully set between two small lakes around 20 km outside of Vilnius. The hotel is huge, with all the amenities you can possibly want. Tennis, spa, indoor pool, gym, basketball court, two restaurants, a pub and an outdoor restaurant on the bigger of the two lakes. Me and my girlfriend really appreciated our stay there, but there are some things you need to know before you book your stay at the Le Meridien.
The pros:
- Lots of activities, and if you are in Vilnius to relax - you will have all the possibilities to do so.
- Great fitness room, one of the largest hotel gyms I have ever seen.
- Excellent pool area.
- Beautiful surroundings.
- Now, the weather was not great, but I can imagine that the lakeside restaurant and watersports will be awesome in the summertime.
The inbetweens:
- Rooms are nice, and very classic in decor. However, some of them have views of the highway instead of the lakes. Also, only two international tv channels (BBC World and CNN) - and no movie channels.
- The hotel is very big, which is great if you like this style of hotel. However, if you are looking for cosy - go elsewhere.
- Service is very attentive, BUT sometimes it is just a bit too much. The staff monitors you at all times, and if you are not used to it, it can be a little bit stressful.
The cons:
- Location. IF you are looking for a hotel in the city - forget Le Meridien. This is situated 20 km outside of Vilnius. Shuttlebus is operated throughout the day and evening (to and from the city/hotel) - but we never tried it. A taxi to the old town is about 18 EUR.
- 5 star? I don't know. The hotel has everything you could possibly want, but lacks the last few details that makes you feel that you are actually staying at a luxury hotel. I would rather rate it a great 4 star business/conference hotel.
- The restaurant was horribly overpriced. Paid 150 EUR for a three course dinner for two, which is not really expensive. HOWEVER, considering it is a Relais&Chateaux restaurant - the level of cuisine should have been way higher. We paid a third of this for an amazing dinner in the city the evening after, with higher level of cuisine and far better service. So, steer clear of a hotel dinner.
So would I stay here again? Well, it depends on the reason for travelling. For doing business in Vilnius? Probably no. I would go for the Radisson downtown instead. For a weekend of relaxation together with my girlfriend? Definitely yes. Especially in the summer. For a city break? No - choose a hotel in the city instead.
