Just returned from 3rd trip to Kenya, having stayed in many National Park camps throughout. Some expensive, some not. Nyumbu Camp, run entirely by the Masai was just perfect. Only a couple of months old, the staff were attentive, helpful, charming. We could not ask for more. It was with a little apprehension that we decided to try this camp, but it turned out to be the highlight of our visit. Went on the best game drives, in our own vehicle, with Masai guide, saw just about everything we wanted to see, with the exception of leopard. Within 2 hours of our arrival, the drought broke and the rains came, in fact the camp was covered in hail stone. Where there was no water, we had a river in front of our tent.
The Masai were overwhelmed with happiness at this event, and were sure we must have brought some very good luck with us.
Food was great, resident chef catered for our needs. It is an eco friendly camp with most power run from solar panels.
We were accompanied from the mess tent to our own personal tent by a masai guide, complete with spear, as he was to be our personal guard all through the night. We could hear lions roar during the night.
There can be nothing more amazing than to be tucked in your tent at night, listening to the lions and knowing you have your own spear carrying masai to keep you safe.
All the staff were exceptional.
A great improvement of other more expensive and established camps. We booked it in Nairobi through Jo an at Star Travel, and we will certainly go back next time.
