“Fine Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2012

I had a group in this Hotel on the 18 Sept to the 21 Sept 2012. The hotel is a great location right in the pedestrian area. The rooms were small but confortable, clean and efficient. The service was wonderful..a good breakfast....included. The price was good.

One night was very noisy from the bar across the little alley.

We liked the quiet side-street location in old town and easy walk to everything, including the castle. The interior was very modern yet this is a very old building on a cobblestone street. Nice! The walk to the castle was worthwhile for the views of the city and the castle. We even saw two different couples in suits and wedding gowns being photographed near the castle. Personally, I did not care for the eggs cooked until brown.

Do not stay in this hotel on Friday or Saturday night. A club close by makes loud noise
for hours. Boom boom boom of the amp until it stopped around 3 am. The desk clerk the next morning said it was like that every weekend, and even calling the police doesn't help.

For the first two days--Wednesday and Thursday nights--the hotel was very good.

But I left Bratislava tired and unhappy.

We arrived at Michalska Brana late at night but luckily it was easy enough to find and there was a really nice receptionist there to welcome us. Our room was huge! In the top floor with a kitchen and living area. The skylights had views of the Gate and the Castle! *a note- there is a nightclub behind the hotel, the blasting Slovak pop music wasn't very pleasant at 2am!!* luckily we didn't hear any noise the second night, maybe it was because we did so much sightseeing and were quite tired!
The breakfast was excellent, we even got a hot cooked egg dish, very well made. We would absolutely stay here for the price of 95 euros a night for three people in that spacious room!

Room Tip: Not in the back, theres a loud nightclub there.

We were invited to a wedding in Bratislava and were offered a choice of Hotels to stay at. We selected this hotel on the balance of location and price. We were not disappointed!

All our contact with the Hotel before our visit was promptly and efficiently handled.

The Hotel was in the heart of the Old Town and close to numerous restaurants and bars. The rooms were comfortable and adequately fitted out. Breakfast was more than adequate and included a choice of cooked items freshly cooked to order. We would stay here again

Room Tip: Try to get a room overlooking only the street at the front of the Hotel. Our friends had a room with...

We were lucky to get a free upgrade to a fantastic apartment. Very luxurious with great facilities and space. Perfect wifi. Breakfast was good - remember to ask for the hot options e.g. eggs, bacon etc. Great location to access the old town, go off the beaten track to get best prices for drinks. Found a fantastic bar near the Cathedral but got driven out by the smokers!! Wonderful restaurant down the street past the Tower on the bend and through a small courtyard. Took the train for a day in Vienna, but have a map as the train station in Vienna is a bus ride away from the Palace and museums. One note of caution - the nearby nightclub plays very loud music until 3:00 a.m., so a great find but bring earplugs!!!

Room Tip: Great but bring ear plugs!

This is a lovely little hotel, inside the old part of town so central to all the interesting stuff, bars, restaurants, museums etc., and the castle only a short stroll away. Old building, but very well modernised inside. Lift, and a fab shower in our room. Hotel MB only serves breakfast, and there is no bar, but on our last afternoon we discovered a lovely little bar just a bit further up the little cobbled street from the hotel entrance. Half a litre of beer and a good coffee came to €2.80!! Cheapest we found...
Free access to Internet in rooms - just ask for a cable. If you need WIFI, you can get a good signal in lobby or on first floor landing.

Hotel Michalska Brana is located in a very quiet street of the pedestrian zone of the Old Town, Bastova Street 4. Bastova Street is considered to be the narrowest and most romantic street of Bratislava. Street itself tells many stories. It was built in 13th and 14th century and in medieval age and for centuries it used to be famous for being a home of the city hangman. His house was demolished and replaced with a new baroque building in the middle of 18th century right facing the property of our hotel. Hotel Michalska Brana is neighboring to majority of embassies and also therefore our location is very safe. All sights on hand - we are only a 1 minute walk to nearby Saint Michael’s Gate, cafe and entertainment Michalska Street or medieval Kapucinska Street, just about a 5 minute walk to the Opera or Presidential Palace. The nearby Bratislava Castle you can reach in 20 minute walk, which is a time you need to get to Danube River too. ... more   less
