“Would probably choose one with better location next time.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 28, 2012

As a 2 star hotel I thought it was a great hotel, but the location was not that great.
The rooms was good and so was the beds. You could hear noice from both the hall way and the next door rooms.
The hotel seemed a bit impersonal in its decor. The pool was a great feature, but it closed a bit early in the afternoon.
The breakfast and the food in general was to our likings.
Next time I would prefer a location closer to the river and the city center, but if you are looking for a hotel in this area this is a good choice.

I was put up in this hotel whilst in Bratislava for work - it was very basic, nothing special. There was a pool there but one had to pay 5 euros to use it even if one was a guest at the hotel - I found that to be totally ridiculous, but I was too busy working to swim anyway. It does look like this building was built back in the Czechoslovakian communist era. On my second night there, a group of young student types checked into the hotel and made so much noise that I went down to the reception desk to complain: "I don't need you to do anything about it, just give me a different room much higher in the building and on the other side of the hotel." The young lady was so nice about it and I managed to get a decent night's sleep thanks to her. Pretty decent breakfast, I've had better of course, but for what it's worth, it's okay. The location is pretty crap though, you're a mighty long way from the old town (bad for the tourists) but you're near three big ice hockey stadiums so it could be good if you're in town to watch a game and there's a huge Billa supermarket around the corner which proved incredibly useful.

Room Tip: Try to get a higher floor!

Not a bad place to get some rest and tour the city. No complaints but nothing really memorable either.

Hotel Nivi is located in a residental district outside Bratislava city centre but there is a tram stop about 300m away with a direct route to the centre. Double rooms are large, reasonably well furnished and clean. Breakfast was OK and dinner good value. The heated swimming pool is much bigger than you normally find in hotels and open till 10pm. Overall, the location is not too much of a problem for business or tourism if you can get to grips with the public transport system (3.5€ for an all day ticket). Try to avoid taxis if you are on your own as these have minimum fare of 10€ and are mostly fit for scrapping.

I hadn't actually booked to stay here, having been sent, at midnight, from another hotel who had failed to honour my reservation. Although the HotelConnect policy stated otherwise, the Hotel Nivy front desk staff insisted I pay again for my stay. I have yet to receive a refund.

Anyhow, from the hotel to the city centre takes over half-an-hour on foot and there is little of note in the immediate vicinity. The front desk staff seemed generally a little surly. It was reasonably priced. The room was large enough and clean with servicable ensuite facilities. I'm unable to vouch for the food. If this hotel had been a little more central it would be perfectly reasonable no frills option for a short stay
