This exhibition ends on January 15 2012 so if you are in Bratislava any time before that, you would not get wrong if you visit this exceptional exhibition in Esterhazy palace of the Slovak National Gallery - in the city centre. This is not a "alltogether" collection of old stuff that you may find in general city tourist museums. Gallery presents the best from the Slovak visual art from first half of 20th century. It explains and describes the change of the Slovak society and how it was difficult to establish "modern" lifestyle in that time rural Slovakia. Historical background was so different from neigboring and trend setting Austria (Vienna secession was only 50 km away but like thousands from rural Slovak areas) or industrial Czech Republic. You may see and experience, and thus understand, much more about Slovakia from this exhibition in two-three hours than from a number of books or weeks of studying. On Thursdays it should be possible to attend explanations by curator in English.
