“Old World Luxury”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

From our arrival to our departure we were treated with utmost reserved respect. Staff was very professional and helpful. Quaint, not luxurious, room was well appointed and very omfortable.
We "dined" in the hotel dining room. Service was excellent and the food was beautifully prepared.

Room Tip: Small elevator, but if you travel light you will be fine.

We wanted a good, elderly hotel with character, and in a central location, and this is exactly what we received.
The staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly. The room was well-equipped but not large, and the air-conditioning seemed to have a mind of its own.

Just spent the last three nights here and I cannot find a single fault. The location is just 5-10 minutes from the centre but has a real neighbourhood feel to it. Our room was a standard and not too huge but tastefully furnished with quality and style. The mini-bar is free and is re-stocked every day with wine/beer/water/soda/nuts - really nice touch. You also get a drink on arrival. The breakfasts are really lovely, served in the restaurant. The staff are very attentive and also friendly. They go out of their way to make this a perfect experience. Sleep quality was excellent too. Would definately both recommend and go back.

We stayed for 3 nights in an April heatwave. The hotel was fantastic from the start - they had arranged a driver to pick us up at the airport at less than usual taxi rates. Thge hotel was in a quiet location but only a 2 minute walk to the attractions of the old town. Reception was great, all spoke really good English and couldn't do enough to help. The room was a little smaller than expected but more than adequate and although we looked out over the sun terrace we didn't have any problems with noise. Every facility you might expect was there - including the possibility of borrowing a laptop if required. The free minibar was a bonus! Breakfast was very good with a huge range of foods from the usual continental cooked to a wide range of fruit, breads, yogurts and cold platters. It's a hotel I would recommend to friends and family in an instant - and if I return to Slovakia, I'll be booking again. A nicely appointed hotel made special by very friendly and capable staff.

Right in the center, in a small hidden street, a great little hotel that makes you feel you entered in a Bratislava a century ago. Rooms are decorated to make you feel like home, breakfast was fine. The only negative was a relatively small size (single room), but it was compensated by free minibar choice, so rare nowdays. Also, wellness was unfortunately not included in a room price.

We choosed this hotel because it is one of the Small luxury hotels group so we expected it will be really very good one, but it was not so amazing what we thought. The rooms are quiete small and if you would go to SPA you have to make reservation one day before (not so good if you stay only one night). The personal was not extra helpful or nice and the hotels restaurant was average. On the other side- the brakfeast was tasty and the private SPA was really nice.
In generally it was not bad, but I am definitely not intersted to come back again.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for the time you took to share your review of your stay at Marrol's Boutique Hotel Bratislava on Tripadvisor.

It is true that the private spa booking need to be made in advance in order to deliver the fresh set-up and ensure ideal temperature in the sauna, we aim to be flexible in the bookings whenever the availability permits so that the guest can enjoy the spa facilities as soon as possible after their request.

Unfortunately from your comments about the our staff I am unable to identify a particular issue, as according your information you have been a guest with us in November last year, and would therefore greatly appreciate if you could contact me directly for more details should you wish to travel to Bratislava in the near future.

Kind regards,

Monika Slobodova

This hotel deserves all the glowing reviews it has had, and my first thought was that there was not really much to add.

However, I think they deserve the kind of review I like to read when I decide where to stay in a strange city – a description of the ins and outs of the place, and why you like it. Not just “terrific place” or “I hate it and besides, the weather was lousy”. Neither of which are really informative.

This place delivers from A to Z. Before we arrived, we inquired by email about transportation from the airport. The answer was prompt and helpful, and the transport itself safe, efficient and reasonably priced.

The check-in was very welcoming and accompanied by a drink of your choice, as many reviewers have described. We felt almost guilty for just wanting to go and lay down in our room for a bit. The reception staff all speak fluent English and German (and maybe other languages as well for all I know), and will help you with any requests or problems in a friendly and efficient way. There is a nice lounge area with an open fireplace, and an adjoining library bar. Both very nice, and beautifully decorated in a retro style. It certainly gives a bit of a Titanic-feeling, like one reviewer mentioned. Maybe it has something to do with the old fashioned politeness you are greeted with as well. Fortunately, there is no fear of sinking.

Our luggage was swiftly carried up to our room, and we soon followed, as we were tired after tavelling. The room is not very big, but very well appointed, and has everything you could wish for. There is a TV with lots and lots of channels (none of which we have tried), coffee making equipment. Free WiFi or cabled internet as you prefer. And no, it is not difficult to find or connect to. Generally it was more than fast enough for our needs, including video streaming, but of you want to do that, use the cable. There is even a chess board.

In the wardrobe there is a safe with room for a laptop. No extra charge. There is also an iron and board. Plenty of hangers. Two lovely bathrobes and slippers. The fridge holds a free minibar with plenty of water (wonderful in this hot April weather), some beer, coke and a bottle of wine. A nice touch :-)

The bathroom is also very nice. It has a tub and quite a fancy shower, but I did figure out how to use it. Nice toiletries of all kinds, and plenty of towels. There is of course also a hairdryer.

Our room faces the roof garden. The view is lovely, with well tended flowerpots, tables and chairs. A very nice place to relax, and there is bottled water on ice there, free of charge. The con is that some of the other guests tends to sit out there until the wee hours, obviously having a good (and rather noisy) time. Shutting the window helps, but if you are a light sleeper, ask for a room facing somewhere else. When the revellers go to bed, it is perfectly quiet, though.

The bed itself is very good, neither rock hard as some hotel beds are, or worn down to a hammock shape. The pillow combination is unusual – one huge and one very small pillow, in addition to a french style roll pillow that is rather hard. I quite like it, but if you need an extra pillow, I am sure you can just ask for it. The bedlinen is white with a pattern of little flowers that matches the room. Nice and soft. Everything in the room is kept spotlessly clean.

The breakfast is in a class of its own, and beats just about anything I have had in a hotel. The selection of food is very good. The staff works hard at all times, so even if you come down late, everything looks as if it was just served. There are several kinds of juice – all very good. Not the case in all hotels I have stayed in.

The scrambled eggs are soft and yummy – not greenish and dry as they very often are in hotels. Plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables. A selection of bread, rolls and croissants. Yoghurt in litte glass jars. Not an industrial label in sight. All sorts of cereals, and even home made cakes. To top it all off, if you are feeling naughty, you can have a glass of sparkling wine to wash it all down.

We haven’t tried the restaurant yet, but we have had room service. Two nights in a row, we have come home late after a concert or opera feeling tired and slightly peckish, but not in the mood for a sit down dinner. My husband went down to ask about the possibility of getting a couple of sandwiches. He came up again not entirely sure he had made himself understood, but shortly after that a waiter brought up a huge tray of rolled up, thinly sliced sandwiches with salmon and ham, accompanied by a small salad and two beers. Just hit the spot, and not expensive either.

What else is there to say – oh yes. Location. Most imortant of all. Perfect. On a quiet side street, close to the river, close to the old town and all the sights, and less than five minutes walk from both opera houses and the concert hall.

And besides, the weather is fantastic.
