“Luxury and Unbeatable Customer Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2011

My spouse and I stayed at Marrol's recently for a weekend visit to Bratislava. We couldn't have been happier with our choice to stay at Marrol's. Chocolates and sparkling wine are presented upon arrival and the well-appointed room provided everything we wanted - cleanliness, comfort, free Wi-Fi, free breakfast, a free mini-bar stocked daily, and top of the line towels and toiletries. Parking was also reasonably priced (14 euros per night) and located on the premises.

The hotel is only a short walk to the Old Town, fine dining, and bars/discos.

The only gripe I had, and it's a small one, is that the room was a little warmer than I cared for and wouldn't cool down despite turning the heat all the way down and the fan all the way up.

If you want a charming, slightly understated hotel with impeccable unobtrusive service then this is the place to stay in Bratislava.
We were welcomed with delicious chocolates and a glass of wine in the elegant reception area. The room, although not spacious, was cozy with every facility you could need, including computer with high speed internet. The smallish bathroom was impeccably clean. The hotel is adorned with beautiful carpets and stylish paintings, there are bowls of fruit dotted around the public areas and delicious home-made biscuits in the reception area. Every time we sat down in the reception area some-one offered us a complimentary cup of tea, coffee or wine - even after we had finished checking out. Service is a fine art at Marrol's.
The restaurant is also excellent. It offers a good example of fine dining without the fuss.
Our only reservation was the incessant jazz music (a bete noire of ours). Vocal music is too intrusive for background purposes, jazz is not to everyone's taste. Take note, hotels and restaurants the world over.

Review this hotel is very difficult to us because we had opposite feelings about our stay there. On the plus side there is the hotel itself: a renovated building in a small street very close to the city center; the room was nice and well equipped (it is a nice touch to have the minibar included in the room charge), on every floor fresh apples are available, in general all seem to be carefully oriented to the customer satisfaction.
But, and this is a huge but, an hotel like that has also to consider that customer satisfaction includes also being capable to create a feeling of

in brief: we firstly reserved a room for a single night, then we decided to extend our stay for another night (i.e. making it a two-night stay). Since we had already booked the first night, we just made another one-night reservation, explicitly mentioning that this was to be considered an extension of the previous reservation (so that we could keep the same room). Upon verification of the papers, we discovered that a screw-up had occurred and that instead of reserving one room for two consecutive nights we had a one-night void in between reservations. We immediately contacted the internet booking site to correct the obvious (remember the note about reservation extension) error, despite their effort the hotel flatly refused to discuss the matter. So we were forced to made a third reservation knowing that we were scrapping an already paid night. Now I can acknowledge that we used a non-refundable rate and we may have made the error, but we were not asking for a refund - simply a date change, being an obvious error; in addition we were ready to pay any penalty or rate difference as needed. To add insult to injury, when there, we talked to the manager who was very unhelpful at best; apart from repeating "I'm sorry" ther was no effort to solve the situation or to propose any form of compensation.
I think that a skilled manager (knowing that the hotel was pocketing roughly 130 Euros free for a mistake in country where 130 are still considered "a lot of money"!) could have handled the situation very differently with no or very little real expenses for the hotel itself; for example he may had offered a room upgrade (some better rooms were available), o a 2-hours free pass for the spa, or a meal at the hotel restaurant. By blindly stick to the rules they left us with a strange bitter feeling of exploitation, and, for an charming hotel of that tipe, this is a capital sin.

Without doubt one of the best i have stayed in - and i stay in a LOT of hotels! From the chilled champagne when you check in, to the friendly explanation of how everything works in your room .... faultless !!!

Rooms aren't huge but are decorated and equiped to a high level of luxury and the attention to detail in the design is fab!

I would DEFINATELY advise friends and colleagues to stay here. In fact if you tell anyone from our company you are coming to Bratislava - its the only hotel they mention!

I would definitely recommend this hotel. It´s location is perfect – just a few steps from the city centre. Staff is very helpful, delicious breakfast, small but nice fitness and free minibar:-) I really enjoyed the whole stay.

Stayed there with my wife and friends. Overall an excellent hotel located a few minutes walk from the Old Town. The welcome drink on arrival is a great touch as is the free mini bar which is handy for a night cap! Breakfast is very good with a wide choice and even Champagne if you so wish! The bed is huge and gives you a great nights sleep. Had a meal in the restaurant on 1 night and was dissaponted with it in terms of choice and standard. You do get a 30% discount but even at that it doesn't represent value for money. The waiters are dressed in tails and white gloves which in my opinion is probably a little over the top. What is good value for money is to hire the Jasmine Spa for a couple of hours. Very relaxing with some fruit and sparkling wine provided. Be carefull not to go over your allocated time though, we went 10 minutes over and they tried to charge us an extra €30. In fairness they quickly scrapped the charge when I explained it was only 10 minutes rather then an hour they had us down for.
Overall this is an excellent hotel that is small, well furnished and centrally located. I booked on the recommendation of Trip Advisor and would have no hesitaion in recommending the hotel for a relaxing few days break.
