“A little too far out of town”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2011

The Apollo Hotel in Bratislava is a good hotel if you are travelling by car. Parking, available immediately in front of the hotel is cheap! The accomodation is not luxurious but very clean and spacious and the breakfast is comprehensive. Prices for a double room are reasonable value dependent upon how early you can book although I don't feel that the DeLuxe double is worth the extra cost.

The Salt Room is amazing and one can relax for an hour of peace and quiet taking in positive ions - remember you probably have to book your turn dependent on how busy the hotel is.

The one negative is that all the information suggests that the hotel is a short distance from the 'Historical city centre' which may be true is you are a marathon runner. Our aging bodies took at least half an hour to reach the hotel from the Bratislava centre and this was no fun when it rained or we were carrying our daily purchases.

Oh and we were told by staff that we had to pay for the shuttle to the city centre so we walked!

All in all there are other, more centrally located Hotels which probably offer better value.

Dear guest,

thank you for sharing your experience with our hotel.
To explain the DeLuxe added value is guaranteed king size bed and a free entry to the Finish Sauna.
Distance from our hotel to the city centre is 1, 5 km. You are right, it depends on individual possibility how fast one walks.
Regarding the shuttle, during the day we can arrange a taxi to the city centre which is charged.
On evenings we provide complimentary shuttle service to the historical city centre when ordering at reception desk in advance. Our hotel staff probably did not inform you about these possibilities correctly, for which we additionally apologise.

Thanks very much for understanding and would be pleased to welcome you at our hotel again to prove standard and quality of our services.

Kind regards
Martina Cibulkova, Sales and Marketing Manager

3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 6, 2011

Stayed in Hotel Apollo (formerly known as Dukla Hotel) in May'11 for 5 nights. In my opinion, it was 4 nights too long.

Good
1) High-speed internet (both wireless and wired) was very fast and good
2) Free parking
3) Breakfast spread was reasonably good
4) Reception staff was pleasant

Need to improve
1) Single room was small with very little room to move around and very little storage space for clothes
2) Shower was very very small - even as a small Asian woman, I had trouble bathing properly
3) Hotel was not in the city centre - located somewhere in a residential neighbourhood
4) Bath/Toilet amenities (including laundry bag) were not replenished everyday
5) The head pillow given was too thin - does not even qualify as a pillow
6) The bed sheet is not long enough to be tucked into the mattress and only cover the mattress partially.
7) The A/C was not working - and the reason given was that the A/C is not switched on during spring. Too hot to sleep during the night without A/C and with the windows closed. Tried opening the windows but big flies and birds will fly in during the night.

Overall, the hotel does not live up to it's 4 stars rating.

Dear customer,
We would like to thank you for your review. We are honestly sorry to hear that not all of our services were at appropriate quality during your stay at our hotel. We have changed several internal processes to improve and avoid similar problems.
Yes, single rooms on the 6-th floor are smaller; we use them usually for accommodating of one-night clients, depending of occupation of the hotel. On the other hand, these rooms have balconies with a nice view to the city center and we have many customers who love them and do not want to stay in another room… We have repaired shower and changed pillows, as well as bedclothes. We have also realized additional trainings of chambermaids on mentioned floor, who were new during the time when you were staying with us.
We would also like to thank you for your positive review of our staff, breakfast and several services that we offer.
One more time, thank you for giving us the chance to improve.
With kind regards,
Apollo Hotel Management

Stayed here 22nd July 2010. It was about 28C. Hotel has free parking right outside the front door. Receptionists were nice. First impressions from the outside unsure. Inside nice and big reception. Looked like a 4 star. Room was nice, with huge bed. The air conditioning didnt seem to be cooling the room below 25C. There is a shower but no bath. Everything is in working order. No normal tea bags and powdered milk and fruity tea bags. TV is old style CRT with 40 channels of which 2 are English. The fridge had some 6 complimentary bottles of coke and water. We had room 416 and free wired internet access is available in the room. Lighting, space and storage are all good. A safe is provided. Breakfast buffet was in a nice restaurant as long as you dont mind stuffed animal heads hanging everywhere on the walls. The restaurant windows need a good clean. The hotel has its own relaxing salt cave/room and is worth a visit.

Dear customer,
Thank you very much for your review. It is always nice to hear that our customers are satisfied with services that we offer and with our employees work.
Regarding TVs – we have already changed them into a nice and modern flat screen TVs in the whole hotel. We also offer wider choose of TV channels, as well as several premium channels for free.
St. Hubert restaurant is decorated in a hunting style, as we follow the tradition of venison specialties which are very famous and were many times being awarded by several independent companies. We also offer international cuisine and special menus for affordable prices.
We are looking forward to welcome you again at Apollo Hotel in the future.
We wish you all the best, with kind regards,

Spent a night here on business and the hotel itself was much better than I thought it was going to be. The rooms are a bit dated - have an 80s feel but spacious. The dining room for breakfast had a fantastic atmosphere and the breakfast choice was excellent.

As for location the hotel is about a 25 minute walk into the historic centre. The hotel is on the edge of the city centre just before the city becomes a cross between an industrial state and a wasteland. I wouldn't rush back to Bratislava but I would consider staying here again if I ever returned

Room Tip: Go high - the 6th floor suites are excellent

The building is not pretty from the outside but the interior makes up for this. Lots of dark wood and brass.

Our bedroom was spacious with a great bathroom - both were spotless.

Staff were friendly and able to assist with directions.

Breakfast was tasty and plentiful and there was a great selection but the hot food wasn't always hot!!

The coffee was great but the fruit juice tasted cheap and sweet!

Try the breads and bread rolls!!

We didn't try the leisure facilities so I can't comment on them.

The old town was about a twenty minute walk but there is a 205 bus nearby - travel is cheap - buy a ticket for the length of your stay and you can hop on and off as you please.

Would definitely recommend.

Dear Hotel Guest,

thank you very much for taking time to share your experience at our hotel during your recent stay. We are very sorry that the breakfast buffet did not meet your requirements. After your constructive feedback we made some improvements, and now there is always one cook responsible for hot buffet breakfast to ensure the right temperature of the meals served.

Thanks again for your feedback and we would appreciate to welcome you at Apollo hotel again.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2011

My wife and I travelled with 2 friends and stayed 5 nights over New Year 2010/11 at the Apollo Hotel. We really enjoyed Bratislava and the old town is very nice. New Years Eve was brilliant with music in the main squares and fireworks over the Danube. The Apollo is a good 15 mins walk from the old town which was ok for us, but there is a tram stop outside and taxis are cheap and in the evening 6pm-11pm there is a free shuttle. The hotel is very nice inside and very well kept, well appointed and well deserving of its 4 stars. Check in was very efficient and the room was very nice with a beautiful bathroom. The minibar was free for the duration of our stay and replenished daily but only with water, beer and soft drinks, nevertheless very welcome. A welcome drink was offered which we took at our dinner on the second night. The food in the dining room was excellent and I recommend the Venison and Wild Boar. Best of all a 3 course meal with drinks was about 12-15 Euros. Breakfast was hot or continental or both and was as good as I have had anywhere. All in all I can’t fault the hotel. Excellent value for what we paid. Also one hour on the train from Vienna were we spent a day.

Hotel's location is a 30 minute walk from the river and the old town. Parking and wireless internet are free. The building is unimpressive on the outside, but the interior is quite pleasant if outdated. The included breakfast was good.
