We stay in this hotel during our honeymoon trip in Eastern Europe. We travel free and easy from Vienna to Bratislava via ferry. it is convenient as the ferry terminal is located around 100m from the hotel.
Upon checking in, the hotel reception is very helpful and polite She congratulates us when we tell her that this is our honeymoon. After leaving our luggage, we goes to the castle and town (all within walking distance). then when we got back to hotel - to our surprise our room is filled with roses, champagne and nice cookies with salmon and a special Congratulation note for our honeymoon (this is total surprise to us)
Not forgetting right next to the hotel is the bus stop where travel to other tourist attractions is very easy and there is frequent shuttle service to Vienna airport (we find out on the second last day of our stay - so lucky if not we will be paying expensively for the taxi) - the shuttle bus fee to Vienna airport is very cheap per person and it depart and arrive on time (No worry)

The location of this hotel couldn't be better; it's a 5 minute walk from the old town and comes off a pedestrianised area. OK the road at the back by the river is busy, but you don't walk that way. Check in was slow, computer problems and trainee staff, but we learnt that in Slovakia in general customer service is almost there, they've nearly got it but there's still a bit to go. They tend to confuse lack of smiles and humour with sincerity and efficiency. Once you realise that then you start to forgive the little things.

Rooms were very comfortable and clean, bathrooms stocked with the essentials and a decent shower and bath. The public areas were again very nice, if a bit business-like. The bar area was pleasant enough for a few drinks and the prices belied the fact that this is a 4* hotel in the middle of a capital city, large cocktails for GBP4 - they were only GBP0.60 cheaper in a bar down the road. Only had breakfast in the hotel food-wise, but that set you up for the day; cereals, cold meats, cheeses, yoghurts, bacon, sausage, eggs, freshly made omelettes, pancakes and pastries - it was a shame to leave the breakfast room. For a really good evening meal try the Argentinian Steakhouse opposite - superb.

I would highly recommend this hotel, if I go back to Bratislava this is where I'll be staying.

The room was clean but there it ends. It was shabby and the furnishings very old fashioned. The bed was very low down and not that comfortable. The breakfast was ok, but very little choice of cereal, or juice. The staff were not very customer friendly (apart from the door person who smiled alot) the business centre booked tickets for us at the opera but told us we had better seats than we actually had when we collected the tickets.
the Danube is full of guests who are on tours so buses are arriving and leaving all the time

It is very central but then I would think most hotels in Bratislava are in the centre, it is a very small town (that is the old town)

I would recommend a trip on the Hypofoil to Vienna it takes 1.15 mins. and leaves at 10.30 returning at 4.30
Everything closes down in Bratislava on Monday almost no museums are open so it is probably a day to avoid there

I would recommend the resturant Paparazzi it is in one of the main streetsand we eat there 3 nights food excellent as is the service

Upside is that is a clean hotel, although over-rating itself. Downside is that, while most of the staff are friendly, they haven't got the hang of excellence in customer service quite yet. Actually, one of the folk in charge of allocating rooms had the temerity to argue rather than give me a room with a working tv (he' s the humourless one). Hotel bills itself on features but is going through a refit so those aren't available (gym etc). Would go down the road to SAS Radisson or try a 3 or 4 star with some style which the Bratislavans have in droves anyway.

Just adding a post to confirm that the Danube is great value for money and spot on for location, being at the corner of the old town and next to the river. The hotel has the feel of a good business hotel; the staff are efficient, helpful and the service was always good. This may not be to everyone’s taste, but was perfectly fine for us on this occasion.

The hotel rooms seemed recently renovated, were spotlessly clean, and are of a good size with a large bed. The TV has a good selection of international TV channels and the shower (over bath) was suitably powerful. We had a courtyard facing room and there was no trouble with outside noise (reported elsewhere). The only downside was the air conditioning which was weak to non-existent in our room.

The buffet breakfast was extensive and very good. Make sure this is included in your room rate (635 SEK pp otherwise!). Overall exceptional value for £60/room inc. breakfast. The taxi fare from the airport was 430SEK and only 350 SEK return if you keep the voucher from the inbound taxi. The hotel will arrange your pick up so no need to incur call charges. Also don’t forget to pick and keep the free Bratislava map from the back seat pocket on the taxi (the cheapest map we saw was 195 SEK in the old town – not that you really need a map!)

If you fancy a trip to Vienna, then this is the perfect location for catching the fast link Twincity liner (mooring point is opposite the hotel) which connects into the very centre of the Vienna. It takes approx 1:45hrs upstream (50km/h) 1:30hrs downstream (60km/h). However book online in advance, as a number of people turning up on-spec were disappointed. Late return sailings at 8:30pm are available on Fri/Sat (& in peak season) only. So plan accordingly.

Bratislava is wonderfully relaxed city, which has not (yet) being over run by tourists and staggers. It has the feeling of a provincial town and is just perfect for watching the world go by with your favourite tipple. We found the people to be perfectly friendly and accommodating and the whole city is certainly value for money. Beers are approx. 80p-£1.20 (careful some are 12%!). and cocktails £2-4. The celebrity lounge made exceptional cocktails, but those around the dubliner pub streets where ropey. You can also have a nice pasta meal for £4-5, or alternatively a very good 3 course meal for two with drinks for approx £25-30 (for this try Mammas & Pappas opposite the Charlton).

On the subject of stag dos (and I’ve been on plenty), the prices in Bratislava will certainly attract them, and this would be a good place should you wish for a more reserved event. We only saw 2 rowdy groups, who might possibly (and rightly so) annoy the locals and tourist alike, but mostly this is far, far less than most other major cities on a Saturday night (this is not a defence, just a fact these days). The city felt very safe and we never saw any trouble day or night for the 4 days we visited.

In summary Bratislava is a nice relaxed city where good value can still be found and we hope to return again soon.
