“Clean, cheap and cheerful”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2013

Not luxurious by any means, but very good value for money. Plenty of little niggles but at about €60 a night you really cannot complain.NB!!
1. The TV does only have 3 English speaking channels and there is only so much CNN anyone can put up with
2. There is a shower head attached to the side of the bath but not a 'tall' clasp or shower curtain - this effecitvely means you either have to sit or kneel and self-shower (or stand and spray the whole bathroom)
3. Aircon works nicely
4. Breakfast is a good selection of cereals, fruits, cooked, yoghurts and eggs - eggs of every possible shape and description (boiled, fried, omlettes, scrambled, poached - eggs and more eggs). The local sausage is quite interesting.
5. Only about a 15-20 minute walk to the old town and close to a mini-supermarket for the essentials
6. Do not try the tea/coffee inroom - truly awful (and no milk)
7. There is a gym apparently - but couldn't make it as sprained ankle of the Bratislave pavements - be especially careful when it is dark, they are well-potholed!

Don't be put off. If you are looking for somewhere to have a good night sleep, nice breakfast and very reasonably priced this is the place.

The Acid-test - would I stay here again - without a doubt, just make sure they have a double room otherwise you're in a twin room (pushed together)

Room Tip: Make sure you confirm the room - I asked for a double and got a twin (not much use on your own)

Location.- well, although not directly in downtown, Bratislava isn't that big, and all the important places are just a few minutes away walking. Cleanliness.- no problems, everything was great and the rooms look new.
Rooms.- nice and confortable. some issues though, the shower has no curtains so you have to struggle not to get everything wet. All the rooms have Internet that's actually high speed, and you don't have to struggle with users and pins like in other hotels.

Food service and rastaurant is very poor for 4 star Hotel ..

We stayed for two nights as a couple, the hotel looks new, we had a spacious room, clean, but no shower curtain & bathmat in bathroom. Breakfast was included and ok, free Internet, parking was €23 for two nights.
Helpful & friendly staff at reception, 10 minutes walk into the lovely old town.
All in all, a good place to stay.

Staff.- impeccable. They let us check out a little late, and they helped in a lot, showing us step-by-step how to get anywhere we wanted. They all speak English very well.

I definitely recommend it!

The Hotel Saffron is located 10-15 minutes walk from both the main station and the old town: 2 stops on the tram to the latter. It has no obvious signage on the street so is a little difficult to find. It's down the alleyway next to Subway! This leads to a large modern complex that looks good. CHeck in took an absolute age, could have had a pint in the time it took to issue a key card.

Rooms are well furnished. I booked for 1 person and they gave me a twin room with only 1 single bed made up. I did NOT appreciate that. Typical central European rubbish pillows. The bathroom has no shower as such. A shower head is located just above the bath tub. No idea how you're supposed to use it but a sitting down shower is counter-intuitive.

No instructions on how to use the air-con. If indeed the random dials even were aircon!

Breakfast is well presented with plenty of choice in a large dining hall. This was a really pleasant room to use with lots of space. They did a good job of keeping breakfast items warm where other hotels let them go cold.

In summary, a modern hotel with lots of potential. Sort out the service issues like lengthy check in and silly shower design, and the distance to the town centre would be tolerable.

Room Tip: Ensure there is an appropriate number of beds!

A good 4-star hotel. A save parking for the car and a correct room. The hotel looks very new and clean. The breakfast is good, without being exceptional. One big minus point for us: there was no shower(curtain) in the room (we had). Overall a nice experience for a correct price.

Room Tip: Ask for a double bed if you want one and inform for a room with a shower. There is enough parking sp...
