“Probably the best hotel in Tihany”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2012

We stayed at the Allegro hotel for a couple of days in early September. It is a charming, privately owned, family style hotel. I agree with the other reviewers that the owner and hotel staff are all very friendly and helpful. All speak either English or German, the owner speaks both languages fluently. There is a breakfast buffet in the morning and after being asked whether we wanted anything else they fixed scrambled eggs for us. In the lobby area is a bar for drinks in the evening. The hotel has secure access to the rooms with a key card. I want to point out that the rooms have air conditioning which cannot be expected automatically in Hungary. We came to appreciate it because it was very hot during our visit.

The hotel is situated in the beautiful town of Tihany. It is almost impossible to not like this small, cozy town. However, it is a quiet place and not too much to do night time.

Allegro is run by an extremly nice lady (Agnes) who has a astonishing welcoming charm. She is the true asset of the hotel and she will do her outmost to make you feel at home.

The rooms are of acceptable, rustic standard (nothing too fancy). Breakfast is so-so. Again, Agnes is the asset and the rest of the staff does their best to keep up to her standard.

We stayed five nights and I guess it is safe to say that Allegro is the best hotel in Tihany, albeit there are not too many to choose from. Do you prefer a little more to do, then you might consider staying in Balatonfüred which is about 5-10 km away.

Me and my partner stayed at this hotel for a week at the end of August and had a wonderful time! The hotel staff were extremely helpful and welcoming, the opened the pool for us to swim in the evenings, sorted out very well priced bike hire and invited us to join then for a drink before leaving. The hotel itself was lovely and clean with a great buffet breakfast. Our room was comfortable with air conditioning that worked perfectly. As it was the end of August the village itself was slightly quieter than high season but we were grateful of this and all the shops, restaurants and bars were still open as usual, we found some great restaurants with stunning views over the lake (the lake itself is only about a 15 minute walk down the hill). Would recommend for a peaceful holiday.

This was a decent 2-star hotel with clean rooms and an average breakfast. It's got a great location and is in the midst of some gorgeous restaurants. It's a good base for a weekend in Tihany run by nice people who are happy to help you.

This hotel stinks. It does.
It advertises a 4-star hotel and what you find is disgusting and worn retro furniture, painting peeling off the wooden parts, dust everywhere, two beds placed in the kitchen / dining hall (kids simply did not understand what was going on), snut smeared on the wall.
I cancelled my booking on the spot but the whole incident ruined the day as I had to find a place for my family to stay in the high season for that night.
A definite NO-NO.

We stayed here for 2 nights at the beginning of our trip to Hungary. The service at the hotel was very nice and friendly, especially the woman who checked us in and the man who worked at the front desk later in the evening. The room was big and the bed was large and comfortable. It had a mini-fridge which was nice. We had a beautiful view from our window of the lake. Unfortunately, when we were there it was very hot and our room was extremely uncomfortable. The a/c did not seem to work very well and while the staff was helpful and gave us a fan for the room to help circulate the air, it was pretty uncomfortable for sleeping. We did enjoy the pool a couple of times which definitely helped in the heat. The hotel offered free breakfast each morning which was nice, and they would also cook eggs and meat to order. The hotel was centrally located to the center of Tihany and we could walk to shops, restaurants and the Abbey. We enjoyed Tihany and the Hotel Allegro, but wish it had not been so hot when we were there.
