“Nice family hotel with heart”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

The hotel is not far from the city center, on one of the main streets of town Szeged, a quiet and clean family pension with safe private parking place. The staff was very helpful. For example, at the end I left the room in the right time, but I could leave my car in the parking place until afternoon for free. The breakfast was good and enough, but nothing extra. Good stay for a very reasonable price!

Interesting place, very clean, pretty comfortable. Nice and warm on two very cold nights, good breakfast, excellent value. Very friendly and helpful staff with good English. Rooms in rear nice and quiet. Cheap!

Room Tip: Away from street

The staff is very friendly, rooms are spacious, but not too clean. Old and used furniture. Bath is a small and not very functional. Big free private parking. Not too far from the city center, about five minutes by car.
Hotel looks nicer in pictures.

This hotel is ok - clean and ok location, quite near the train station. Price is reasonable. My main complaint is from the title - mosquitoes. You pay extra for air conditioning, but it was not that hot, so we decided to sleep with windows open. Big mistake, with lots of bites to show. So, if you stay here, make sure you apy extra for the air con,so you don't get the mozzies biting.

We didn't have breakfast, but reception said we cold still have coffee. Coffee wasn't that good, and the breakfast buffet just looked average.

In LP, this hotel is called Familia Panzio.

Well, I must agree with other reviewers – this place is very basic or even spartan. It is clean and it has all you need but only for one night when you are on the way and you need to have a stop. Also I would appeal to the hotelkeepers and suggest that they definitely should not charge for air condition. It is very unpleasant.
Still the previous reviewers did not write about one thing. I guess they might have not noticed that the Familia Vendeghaz guesthouse is not just a hotel – it apparently used to be a seminary or a cloister. It gives the place a very unique atmosphere which we appreciated very much… Also I find the staff very helpful since weI needed to call some Hungarian people that do not speak English and we were offered a help for free. Besides all – I recommend this place because it is very close to the amazing Anna Fürdő, i.e. an old traditional thermal spa located in the stylish building just several streets from the guesthouse.

The pension is centrally located and it is not hard to find. Parking is in the courtyard, were are sufficient places for guests. The camera is average as space and is clean.
Unfortunately the air conditioning is optional, you are paying extra for this feature. Thei should offer it for free, especially because in Budapest we stayed in a two star hotel (Chesscom) and had this feature.
TV has only Hungarian stations (although Szeged is very close to Romania) and CNN.
As a plus: in the bathroom there is an Ambi Pur air freshener that can refresh both bathroom and room.
As drawbacks (except the lack of air conditioning) would be the shower curtain, which should be changed because it started to get seemingly dirty yellow.
Price: We paid for a double 43 EUR / night (plus city tax of 1.6 EUR / person). In HUF 10000 HUF as at the reception we were asked 11 000 (probably for the booking fee). In the end we paid 10,000 but seemed that they do us a favor.

Room Tip: You can choose the street view rooms because the traffic in Szeged is almost zero. Coming form a big...

Staying in Szeged was a last minute decision, so i found the hotel in Lonely Planet. There was no concrete review, but I could not find another one, so decided to stay two nights. (We made one night finally)

The entrance was lovely, and the girl seemed helpful and nice with us. However, the reception was very dim and room was really gloomy! (I saw some other rooms in the morning, which were a bit better than ours). I felt suffocated, because it was hot and the girl told us to pay 5 euros more for the A/C. I felt puzzled but said nothing.

The bathroom was OK, small and NO hand towel nor shampoo. Even though the room was clean, there were 2 huge spider nets on the ceiling. (felt OK, at least they eat mosquitos, rite?) The bed sheet was worn and there were some holes on it; and it was not a double bed indeed. It was a combination of two "sofa beds" with a thin blanket under the sheet.

We left Szeged next day, paying only 50 euros, which seemed quite expensive for me for a place in that situation.
