Nice food and good beer in a good location.
Parking tricky so do not take the car( city center).
Fresh menu and big beers selection with friendly service.

“Forget Austria, try this little gem in the middle of Sopron!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2011

This is a lovely pub/resturant that sells itself as an "English Pub" but I have to say, it is definitely not that. That choice of food here is outstanding and the quality is also very very good. For those British people reading this expecting it to be like a British bar in Spain, sorry, this is far more exquisite. They do sell Guinness and Bombadier ale on tap here but it is the food that that is a real winner - excellent value for money and I would definitely recommend it.

The only negative point about this resturant is that it is still subject to the prehistoric Hungarian law that allows smoking inside it. The non-smoking area is downstairs here and I would really like them to become completely non-smoking.

Waiters and waitresses are great also, as well as their native Hungarian, all speak German and several speak English so you will have no problem ordering your meal here. As I live local to this area, I can say that a few days visiting Sopron is not really complete without a meal in the Perkovatz Ház which is slap dab in the middle of town.

There are two other places in Sopron also worth visiting for a meal out - one is "Tercia Hubertus" (google it) and the other "Feher Rosza" (White Rose) which are definitely, together with Perkovatz-Haz (formerly known as "The John Bull Pub") the best places in Sopron.

You will definitely find more choice and superior value for money in Sopron than you will in the majority of Austrian restaurants just over the border - and most importantly, Hungarians will smile and generally be happy where as Austrians are grumpy - only speaking from 10 years experience of living in this area.

“Probably the best meals I ate in Hungary.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2009

Don’t be put off by the sign out front saying "English Pub"; the menu is more than fish and chips. The menu is extensive and includes most Hungarian dishes as well as several with a vaguely Italian flair. All the soups were excellent. Plates are colorful and include more vegetables than others. Some of the fried items were a little heavy, but that's Hungary. Unlike most Hungarian meals we ate, the Perkovatz avoided drowning their food in salt and items were properly cooked. Good wine list.

The staff is accommodating, speaks German and English very well, and are prompt and courteous.
