“Half and half...”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2012

We,ve been here for a family vacation. We've had a great time but unfortunately some things didn't make me/us happy.
1. When we booked the hotel (e-mail), no one has ever told us, there's a parking area what we have to pay for. When we arrived they almost charge us for that, but I refused it. They said, they're gonna send a bottle of something, because I've to pay the parking fee...I said what about that, not to pay for the parking, and you can keep your bottle of something...
2. In the restaurant they're serving a good taste of food but, for breakfast and for dinner as well. But...Sometimes they'd clean that place. On the first night, my fingers were glued to the chair, 'cause of the dirts. Mentioned it to the our waiter. Next morning we sat at the same table. Guess what? They've only cleaned that only one chair...
3. Our room. Nice, big, comfertable beds. But. We've been playing on the carpet with my daughter, and something has went underneath her sofa. Man... We shouldn't have gone after her toy...Mess, uncleaned places we've found there. As well.

It was the first time in my life when I made a complaint. Asked the reception of the hotel, to please clean up our room, here & there... We've been told, the cleaners made a poor job, and they're gonna punish them... I said, ok. They made mistakes, but in my point of view, the housekeeping manager should've told them, hey there's something's wrong here...So first of all they'd find a new housekeeping manager.

The good things:
1. Food.
2. Large room.
3. The spa & the aqua area. Slides(Fun for everyone. Even for the parents!)
4. The area where the hotel built. Nice, quiet, good for relaxing.

So after all, I can say my daughter still wants to go back there, (mostly in wintertime) but because of these cleaning issues, we wouldn't. I hope they've already solved these problems. If they does, then I'l be more than happy to spend another week at this hotel.

We've stayed at this hotel for a week, we had an apartment.

The things we liked:

The main advantage this hotel has is that it has direct access via a glass tunnel to the Mediterranean aqua park, so you don't have to take your child out to freezing temperatures after a bath in winter time .
The aqua park has a lot of facilities for children. It has a big children play room with lots of toys and a nice lady that watches the children. It has a first aid office, useful when you travel with children. The apartment was nicely separated, with separated toilet room, bath room, living room and bedroom. The living room is quite spacious. Friendly and helpful staff. Good restaurant. It also has children menus.

The things we didn't like:

The apartment's toilet smelled horrible, just like a public toilet! We talked to the hotel staff and the cleaning lady came and gave us a cleaning spray and showed us how to clean the toilet and spray around it whenever we don't like the smell !!!! In a 4 star hotel! We stayed for 8 nights and it was not remedied. The rooms are small. The heating system is ac, so the air is very dry(24-27% humidity), and it will not work when you're not in the room. So, if you stay in the aqua park all day long, it might get chilly, especially if the cleaning lady leaves the window open as she did in our case. In the evening the water in the aqua park pools are not as warm as they specify in the labels next to each pool. In the bubble pools for example, you can feel that the water being pressured out is cold. You have to pay for the parking and, depending on the package, for the access to the Mediterranean aqua park as well.

Overall we had a nice experience. We would recommend this hotel for family with young children travelling in winter time. In summer time you can find better hotels/villas nearby. Well they are available year round, just that we preferred not to take our child out in the cold after a couple of hours of bath time.

The hotel is located in the recreation area of the city of Debrecen, about 3 km from the historic center, which runs every 20 minutes by tram - stop by the hotel's parking lot. A small amusement park, sports center and a sizable lake fed thermal waters. Town famous for its thermal waters. An object with a small beach surrounded by fence. The peace, silence, no drunken tourists, you really can relax .. We recommend ...

Stayed at the Aquaticum over a weekend on a business trip. I didn't love it, but found many aspects appealing. First, it is located in the lovely forested area of Debrecen, so you can always pop out for a nice stroll by the lake or in the 'woods'. Second, they have expansive and wonderful mineral baths. Both indoor and outdoor, their baths offer different experiences in terms of ambiance, temperature, etc. They also have saunas and full spa services (I have not used the latter, but have colleagues who have and enjoyed it). Third, they are conveniently located just about a 25 minute walk from downtown and a 5 minute walk to the tram stop. They have a small shop and ATM onsite and a couple of restaurants on property. The food is decent buffet fare and it's a pretty good spread, but didn't seem to vary much from day to day.

My only negative comment about the Aquaticum is that the property looks fairly rundown. It is not in disrepair or anything, but it just looks... old... somewhat used... like people have been running around with dripping mineral water all over the place. The architecture is simply not very pretty. The rooms are also just ok. They're definitely not luxurious but have all the amenities and is generally clean.

Having said that, would I return? For the baths, definitely. For a stay, I have one other hotel I prefer, but in a pinch, yes... It is a reliable fallback in a great location!

Hi,
We just returned from Debrecen where we spend 5 days in Aquaticum Hotel.
The hotel is situated in the old thermal baths building surrounded by a beautiful park.
The building is like a labyrinth: a lot of doors and corridors to different pools and medical and SPA facilities.
The room is clean but replicates somehow the building design: a lot of doors for a small apartment.

Somehow annoying fact is the parking. It cost you a lot but is far away from the hotel. Difficult to manage for families with small kids with a lot of stuffs to get in the holiday.

The thermal baths looks bit old, but the water is good and you can choose from pools with different temperatures ( from 20 to 40 Celsius degrees). There is an outdoor thermal pool as well.
The indoor aquapark is quite new and is very noisy: the sound of different water systems is high and the kinds using the water tubes screams a lot when they collide with the pool. The light is strong and the sunglasses needs to be used during sunny days.
The restaurant is good, with a lot of traditional Hungarian dishes (quite spicy sometimes).
The overall feeling after we spend some days in Aquaticum is good.

Room Tip: the appartments can accomodate up to 4 persons

We have just arrived from Aquaticum Debrecen Thermal and Wellness Hotel. It was a short holiday which could have been better (for the price). I have been to the water theme park before and thought that staying in this hotel was the most convenient way to spend 2 nights. I was wrong in only one thing: price/value.

Main focus for us: the rooms and the hotel were clean!

Parking is not free (~7 EUR/night) and the place is quite busy. Free and more spacious parking place would be better. The staff is helpful and do they best to navigate you empty places which is hard because of some strange guests who park one car into the place of two cars.

You have to go through a restaurant's "garden" to reach the thermal bath's main entrance. The building itself desperately needs a renovation. The reception is on the second floor which is strange but understandable. Reception staff is kind and helpful either at check-in or check-out. They give you RFID wrist watch for the spa, voucher for the welcome drink, towel card and a plastic (RFID) door key. I really don't know why can't one use the wrist watch to operate the room doors.

Be the way, welcome drink. You can choose to have a small bottle of champagne or a soft drink. It is a valuable gift regarding the prices of everything in this hotel.

The rooms are ok if you want to use the room only for sleeping and dressing. They are definitely not 4 stars. If TV is a question for you be prepared the the device in the room is really small. We did not use it at all but can't imagine how one can see anything on this small screen. From the bed...

Spa towels can be obtained on the third floor at the wellness reception. They change these towels in 3 days which is ridiculous. So you have to dry yourself or pay for the extra changing. 4 stars, eh? You get uni-size bath robes which is good for the "big" guests. One of our robe was hollow. We didn't really care about the design, the colors, the furniture but the personal impression is 3 stars at most. Except the prices.

All the prices are extremely high and the 8% compulsory service fee is not included. They have one kind of beer on tap, the wines are expensive but tasty.

The breakfast and dinner are served in the "basement" in a small restaurant. Prepare to wait for table and food in high time. The food tastes well but the selection and the replenishment are poor. Dinner is served till 9pm, but after 8pm the service becomes even slower.

To summarize our experience: The spa is superb and fun even for adults (especially couples) but the wellness hotel is 3 stars at most with a very high price level. I doubt we try it again the hotel but we will be back to the spa.

Room Tip: All the same. Try to get one on the second floor closer to the spa entrance
