“Quiet location, very helpful and friendly team !”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2013 via mobile

We stayed three nights over a very hot long weekend in July in this small hotel. Nice and quiet location in a park, no traffic, only hotel guests cars' have access, comfortable parking directly at the hotel. Rooms are not very big, but comfortable and very clean, with bathroom. Changing of arrival date was accepted without any problem, very positive !! Unfortunately we had to change rooms twice, first room was very noisy because of loud neighbours with crying children and dog, walls are "thin". Second room aircon not working at all, impossible to sleep well under the hot roof. But the third room was good, quiet and cool ! English speaking staff ! The team was very, very helpful, patient and friendly. Good and tasty breakfast with hot and cold dishes. The restaurant is also good, typical hungarian dishes.

The Villa Hotel is a bijou hotel attached to the more well-known Krudy Etterem restaurant (a good tip if your taxi driver hasn't heard of it) located in a beautiful forest setting. The price is very economical, the staff are friendly and helpful and of course its restaurant is famous locally (Hungarian food only). This is a tourist hotel, so a business traveller should not expect the usual amenities, though the staff will help where they can. If I have one gripe it is that the (free) Wifi is not very good - weak signal except in the lobby, and often cuts out. But I would never stay anywhere else in Debrecen.

Room Tip: The showers are a little tight if like me you are aging and corpulent - ask for a double room for si...

I have had a lovely stay in this absolutely very nice hotel, with 15 rooms only. Local people are not really aware there is a hotel here, as they think the building houses a renowned restaurant only (Krudy).

When you have booked this hotel and you consider eating here as well, you might want to contact the hotel before arrival to make a reservation for the restaurant. Though being a hotel guesst, trying to make a table reservation for the eveniong while it was still afternoon, I was initially turned down for a table. Only after objecting a table seemed to be available after all...

I arrived by car and used a GPS. This will only send you somewhere near. In fact it seems you have to drive into a park. Or onto the parking premises of neighbouring hotel Aquaticum. To do this you will have to cross the rails of the tram. I phoned the hotel to get final directions, and I was instructed to drive 'on' the rails. Luckily I did not take this litteraly...

There are a few stools at the bar, where staff is ordering drinks. When you want to sit in the bar, this is your option, or you will be sent into the lounge. Tables seem to be exclusively reserved for food ordering guests.

The WIFI is good, but with regular intervals you will have time outs and will need to reconnect. If you need to be online for more than lets say 30 minutes, you will have to take this into account.

The breakfast buffet seems not extensive, but everything is there! Elegant, just as the hotel is. And tasty. They will come to the table to ask if you want any eggs prepared.

The location was perfect for me, as I needed to be at the University, which was litterally just a stroll through the park. If you have no problem walking or taking a tram, the location is also top. The tram stops in front of the hotel, and it is a 30 minute walk to Piac Utca (tourist info is there as well). The walk is straight ahead. Again, the hotel is in a park. I slept with an open window and it was quiet.

Final tip: there is a daily special (weekdays) in the restaurant. This is not mentioned in the menu. There is just a little folder to be found with the salt and pepper and it is just Hungarian. But you can find it on the hotel website as well: http://www.villahotel.hu/gasztronomia
Look it up online and use google translate before going there and you will have some notion. It seems very wothwhile.

The evening was hot, but the terrace at the hotel had a fan including waterdropspraying. The service was really nice and the waiter was full of jokes. Next to this he gave us some good advice in course. The oldstyle Hungarian plate my colleague ordered was terrific and the beef was also very good.
By the way, we did not stay at the hotel itself.

Small, very traditional style, very pleasant. Set in a quiet area of the park, among the trees. Very good value. I have stayed twice (2010 & this week) and highly recommend it.

I don't understand the other reviewers comment about taking toilet rolls - I found them the best quality toilet rolls of any hotel I have stayed in anywhere in the world.

Room Tip: Any room will be good.

The Villa Hotel is situated on the north side of Debrecen. The hotel is located in a small "forest" so it is blessedly quiet at night, the rooms are comfortable and the bathroom is delighfully up to date. Typical of hotels in eastern Europe take a roll of toilet paper with you. Our toilet paper rolls are much larger.

This facility has a staff that work hard to make our visit the best. The restaurant suppplies wonderful breakfasts. You have a choice of meats, vegetables, breads/rolls, cereals and fruit. The coffe is strong and each cup is individually made. The cost is well within the travelers budget.

Tram stop is a 3 minute walk.

You can prepay on Tripadvisor and receive a receipt that we present to Reception. It was a relief to have staff speaking very understandable English.

Highly recommend this facility.

Room Tip: Debrecen has a lot of history and fabulous gift shops.
