Description: The 'Kacsa' (Duck) Restaurant is situated in Buda in the heart of Vizivaros spreading at the feet of Castle Hill on the corner of Fo and Kacsa streets. Vizivaros (Watertown) ows its name to being part of the strategic waterways in the Roman times with its vivid harbour and bustling commerce. It still preserves the atmosphere of the old times with narrow alleyways in many places. The restaurant having been in operation for more than fifty years is established in one of these tarnished buildings. In 1987 it was the first restaurant in private ownership in Budapest. We offer typical Hungarian dishes beside the main specialities of the restaurant, the famous duck meals, which are served with an excellent selection of wine exclusively originating from Hungarian wine-cellars. 70 Different courses can be found on the menu from cold starters to desserts, among which 9 are duck specialities. Live gipsy music provides a memorable experience every night together with the intimacy of the dinner. The kind and friendly staff, the beautiful cover, live music and the elegant setting create a splendid atmosphere for consuming a family, a romantic or a business dinner as well as a meal with your friends. Visit our restaurant and make sure in person that it is not by chance that this restaurant is listed to be as one of the best of Fine Dining Restaurants.

“Nice but pricey”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

A group of four of us went and it was just over about £40 a head for dinner which included 3 courses (cheap end starters) mains and desserts with 2 bottles of wine. Cash only. Duck main course were fabulous and highly recommend. Soup starters nice but puddings not so good (squirty cream, I wouldnt bother again). Very quiet as low tourist season. Staff helpful and pianist/violinist made a good evening out.

Dear "Tracey P " We gratefully thank you for your very good feedback shared by the readers of Tripadvisor community. I'm sorry to answer a bit later but we are glad you were able to obtain an experience that is worthy of us to continue to propose to the general public. As you experienced the first importance in our restaurant to show the famous Hungarian hospitality, excellent local food especially duck dishes, while enjoying live music in the evening. We welcome back, and because we are a small family restaurant we need assistance so let me ask you to recommend us to your family and friends as well please and I hope that next time will be a full house waiting for you.
Sincerely, Tibor Antal

“Nice but stiff”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 24, 2013 via mobile

Good food, bad wine and a little overpriced. Very nice decor and atmosphere. The staff however was really stiff and traditional. The food, we hade duck, was good and something I'll recommend. And bring cash. They want you to pay cash. So if you'll start with trying to pay with card you'll probably get a offer of some sort, maybe a bottle of wine or a discount, if you pay with cash. If you going to the Kiraly bath this is a funny place to get some food at after the bath, but don't bother if you'll have to travel to get here. But I do recommend the Kiraly bath!

Dear "Karl S" I know your review is two years old, but I would like to respond to it. I am glad that you found our dishes good but I am sorry you did not like Hungarian wine which is not our fault I think. We represent the real Hungarian cuisine in authentic way for almost 30 years. Probably you like restaurants with loose style which are not so elegant or simpler than ours and you visit them on weekdays .You did not mention our service or anything else which is regrettable. I think your main reason for complaint was the price and it seemed you found your right place in Budapest.

Sincerely yours,
Tibor Antal

5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 13, 2013

We asked the reception staff where to have a good hungarian dinner and they gave us the name of this restaurant located in the surroundings of the hotell (100 meters away). Excellent food, duck, and very good service. ut don´t order the Palinka it is almost un-drinkable, woaw 56 percent alcohol and a dreadful smell.

“GREAT duck, overpriced wine!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2012

If you are a fan of duck then you MUST go here. Kacsa means "duck" and is their speciality, although they have a good range of traditional Hungarian cuisine. The atmosphere was relaxing, romantic and, again, traditional.

We had two of the speciality Duck dishes which were utterly perfect. The service was great and each waitress spoke at least two European languages.

So, the wine. It was great, but they charged us five times the price of what the bottle was available for in the local shops...

For hilarious results try to pay with Mastercard, the waitress may explode - CASH ONLY. Well worth it for a special meal.

Dear "Larry G" Thank you very much for taking your time to convince people to visit our traditional Hungarian restaurant on your recommendation. Let me reveal publicly that there are drink and wine lists on each tables so anybody can verify prices before ordering. I'm sorry answering late but I want to say thank you for your proposal and we hope to have a chance to welcome you back in our restaurant in case your travel plan brings you back to Budapest. In the meantime because we are a small family restaurant we need assistance so let me ask you to recommend us to your family and friends as well.
