“Brilliant Reception Staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 7, 2012

I have just returned from a trip staying at the Hotel Central Basilica, as the name suggest it is very well located to pretty much all the main areas, as well as being a 5 minute walk from where the three metro lines meet. The hotel itself was spotless and was great value for the price. But the main asset of this hotel were the reception staff, all were very helpful with arranging transfers via e-mail before we arrived in the country, to providing me with directions.

A few small things- we reported a draft in room 104 which was fixed but could maybe do with another look? Also at breakfast the hot water for tea was never really hot, more luke warm.

Apart from that i would defiantly return to the hotel and have already recommended it to a friend!

Room Tip: The hotel can easily arrange group or private transfers for reasonable prices if e-mailed in advance

I have just come back from a 4 day city break - staying in this hotel was fantastic, the location is very central, about 200m from the metro and the same to the Christmas markets, the open air thermal pools are a short metro ride away or a leisurely 45 min walk down a long straight road, Staying in room 309 to the rear of the hotel, the view wasn't up to much but that didn't worry me to much, there is plenty to do and see right outside the hotel, including the magnificent Basilica church approx 100m away, a truly awesome building with a breath taking interior, if your lucky enough to be there on a Sunday morning and go inside (free) you can hear the church quire singing (imagine St Pauls Church in London). The journey to the hotel was very easy, jump on the 200E bus straight outside the Airport after getting your ticket from the news agent just inside the airport terminal (325 HUF) about a quid, the bust drops you off at a terminus point, off the bust straight onto the M3 blue line metro another 323 HUF and that drops you 200m from the hotel, which is Central Budapest. The night life was very good, lots of places to eat out, a very nice jazz club about 50m away from the hotel was a hidden gem, you dont know its there walking passed on the cobblestone path, I got asked in after looking at the drinks and food menu in the window, its down stairs in a very open and spacious cellar, a four piece band and a bottle of wine (2900 HUF) passed most of the early evening nicely, there are some fantastic restaurants nearby, try them all you wont be dissapointed, they are all very reasonably priced, around 20 to 30 pounds for a meal for two inc drinks, most also accept Euro. A ride on the Danube on a cruiser is another thing to try, again around 900HUF for an hours trip, very nice and very good value for money, seeing both Buda and Pest from a central location. The open air Thermal pools are an absolute must do, get a changing cabin, take your own towel and flipflops, have a great time, I did and would go back, and defo to this hotel, the staff are very very helpful and the hotel rooms are very clean and mahoosive, TV and mini bar inc

Room Tip: Room 309 excellent location and room

Great hotel, very central to all attractions. Rooms very clean and comfortable but too hot, could not sleep without the window open and then it was a bit draughty as it was November. Helpful, friendly staff. Good breakfast, reasonable choice of food served 7 till 10.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back have no view but with building work across the road, rooms at the front could be n...

Made the most of cheap Ryanair flights and booked the Central Basilica in Budapest.
It was ideal.Centrally placed, very very friendly staff and comfortable rooms.
Breakfast a bit plain but usual Continental and enough there to suffice.Quiet rooms modern decor and attractive.Even the chimes of the bells at the Basilica church didn't worry us.Staff only too willing to help.Communication from the hotel prior to my trip was excellent as far as arranging transport etc.If I ever go to Budapest again this will be top of my list.

Couldn't be nearer the action in the old town.Spotlessly clean.Helpful staff who just need to smile more to earn the epithet 'friendly'.Room overlooking the courtyard quiet but small[202].Beds rejected by the Hungarian Prison Service as 'too uncomfortable'.Ask for extra pillows and they are delivered poste haste and with good grace.Breakfast ok .All in all,a good experience but please, please sort out the beds.....
Oh, and the air-con is a joke.It doesn't matter what you want - the temp is centrally controlled. And the 'controller' obviously suffers from the cold as his idea of bedroom bliss is 26 degrees

Room Tip: Stay at the back.Otherwise, it's the bells, the bells...

I would recommend this place. It's roughly halfway between the famous Chain Bridge into Buda and the bottom of Andrassy Ut, which contains many of Pest's sights. Location couldn't be much better. The cathedral is right next to it, which is a useful landmark in the skyline when you're trying to find your way home after too many palinkas. Breakfast was quite good as they go, the building was smart and spacious. Staff were attentive, my bathroom plug developed a very minor fault and they had it fixed within 5 minutes. Bar Negro across the square is a great place for an aperitif or nightcap.
