“Excellent price/quality ratio!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 15, 2009

This is definetely one of the best hostels I've ever staid in. It was cheap, yet the location was wonderful (right behind the Opera house), the room was very large (larger than in many hotels), there was a nice and clean en suite bathroom, it was really peaceful and quiet and you get your own keys to come and go as you wish. It was also possible to store your luggage there on the last day. The hostel has a kitchen with some utensils that the guests can use. There is no 24h reception so you need to inform the hostel beforehand of when you'll arrive, and the whole stay has to be paid upon arrival on cash (they also accept euros). The only minuses are that the room was slightly cold, but that's probably because of the cold spell in Europe at the time, added to the gas problems with Russia, and that there was no frying pan in the kitchen.

Obviously this is not the Four Seasons but with these prices that's not what you would expect. The price/quality ratio was probably the best of all the places we've ever staid in.

Someone complained of dark corridors in the hostel earlier. There are motion sensors that switch the lights on so everytime you exit your room, try to find the sensors to get the lights on.

  • Liked — Large room, cheap prices, great location.
  • Disliked — Room slightly cold, no large towels provided.

On arrival at hostel, had to pay full price of stay immediately, which caused problems as the bank machine nearest would not accept my card. Room very clean, bedding comfy and supplied with small towels. Our room had a large window which was lovely to open and watch the street unfurl during the day. Despite it being July the room kept cool, tho there was no air-con. The bathroom was tiny but clean and sufficient. The hostel itself is in a private building and it goes towards giving you a feeling of actually living in budapest. There is very little 'common room' but we still managed to meet some of the others who were staying in the hostel. The surrounding area is great and has loads of restaurants and pubs, with the 'house of horror', 2 metro lines and adrassy avenue only a few minutes walk away, Overall I give this a above average rating as I felt it was very good standard for a hostel and for the money we paid and the location.

  • Liked — Cleanliness and location. Window in room was great too.
  • Disliked — the part of the stairs which had no light, when we came home late!

This hostel was booked for us through a friend who has a contact in Budapest. It's an interesting arrnagement they have going on. No receptionist, so you must inform them what time you'll be arriving and someone will meet you there. All the rooms are private and there is a shared kitchen which it appeared only the guests tend to. You get quite a bit of privacy. I only ran into one other guest in the kitchen one evening. The location is great! Close to just about all the major sights, and in a very nice area of town. Lots of restaurants and bars within walking distance. I was expecting something a little bit more upscale, but overall, this place was relatively clean, conventient, and well priced. I don't think i would stay there again, but I certainly wouldn't advise againt it. Just don't expect a warm and comfortable guesthouse. It's definitely a hostel, just an untraditional one.
