“an absolute gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2009

We had a lovely four days staying at the St George Residence in May this year. We have a little five year old boy, which is why we liked the idea of staying in a suite with some basic kitchen facilities. The moment we arrived we were very pleasantly surprised by the absolutely gorgeous appearance of the hotel's sympathetically and painstakingly restored historic buildings and the very friendly welcome we received. Our Bronze Suite had been upgraded to a Gold Suite with huge rooms, parquet floors, and a beautiful marble bathroom. The rooms are arranged around a courtyard where you can sit in the evening with a drink, and the staff have even been happy to serve us our meals there. You can either cook in your suite or use the excellent hotel restaurant offering very good value for money. The hotel has no Spa or Swimming Pool, but you won't really miss these, as there are some breathtaking historic Spas in Budapest to choose from, and it's great fun visiting a different one every day. The hotel location is lovely. The Buda Castle District is an Oasis of calm and charme that we loved to return to after a busy day exploring the busy city of Pest. There are lots of pretty little cobbled streets and lovely little restaurants and bistros to explore... We can warmly recommend this lovely hotel.

We stayed for 3 days late June 2009, and loved it in every respect. Ourstanding accommodations, friendly staff and brilliant location. Would recommend without hesitation!
The all suite 'residences' are lavishly furnished and have a small kitchen, marble bathrooms and quiet location in the centre of the Buda Castle area of Budapest. Excellent restaurants walking distance, ATM's nearby for HUF currency, and sensational views nearby.

Having stayed in executive rooms in Hilton Hotels such as Prague and Amsterdam this was a very welcome change.
All the rooms are suites and the setting is suberb. It feels like you are staying in a palace - the decor is superb and the whole place is very clean.
It is one of those times when the pictures on the website are totally accurate and we would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to anyone.
We would put this nearly on a par with staying at the Arts Hotel in Barcelona. If we go back to Budapest we would definately stay here again.

Sited in the Castle District of Budapest it is just round the corner from the Hilton. It took us around 10 minutes to walk down (using the steps by the castle) to the chain bridge - we are reasonably fast walkers - and 3 minutes to cross into Pest.
If you aren't into walking - especially back up the slopes/steps - the number 16 bus runs very frequently - seemed like every minute or two, there was often one just after one had passed.

Breakfast was 15 euros each and of the three days we ate there 2 were totally a la carte whilst the final day was a combination of buffet and table service. The food quality was excellent.

Beware of eating in the Castle District restaurants - they can be very pricey and the quality is not always very good. We ate in two of the Italian restaurants in Liszt Ferenc Terrace. (near Octagen on the metro) which is a very lively area and had excellent food at reasonable prices.

We have already been in really great 5* hotels all over the world, so we have become really picky guest. But even if you try to search for some faults in this hotel you will not find any! It was just a perfect stay in Budapest!
We stayed over a long weekend to do some sightseeing in Budapest. The hotel did pick us up at airport in the morning and our suite was already ready for us. The staff is extremly friendly and helpfull! The reception is pleased to arrange anythink you want and is a good source for sightseeing tips. The rooms are huge and well maintained and everything was flawless clean.
Unfortunatly the weather was not so nice during our stay but the reception did arrange for spa treatments and hairdresser so we still had a great time. Fortunatly the room are big enouth so we did not mind to stay inside and just relax in the room when is was raining to heavyly.
Try the restaurant!!! It is really cute like the entire hotel and the food as well as the staff is great! We had our dinner there every evening (too much rain to walk around) and were never disappointed. The food is good quality and the prices are ok.
If you go to budapest I can only advise you to stay in this hotel!!!!

I liked this hotel. Really.
Imagine yourself, first time ever going to Hungary, can't speak the language, jet lag and anxious. This is the place to land for the first few days of your trip.
First, the people at the hotel answered every email I sent them regarding confirmations, taxi service promptly and in excellent English. They arranged to have a taxi meet us at the airport and take us directly to the hotel (we liked the taxi driver so much that we hired him to take us around the city the next day!). The staff was professional and friendly and the service was quality. The rooms were clean and bright and elegant. The furnishings were appropriate and the beds comfortable. The location of the hotel is excellent. It is just a short walking distance to the Buda castle, Fisherman's Bastion, and other important sights. There is a cash machine at the Hilton Hotel less than a block away.
This is a small boutique hotel. Each room is different. The hotel building has a long history and is a lovely building. Our room had a lovely view of the inner courtyard. It was QUIET. No loud traffic noise. I loved the place and would go back there again.
Now, some of the negative points (and there are a just a few). Breakfasts are not included in the price of the room. Just be aware of that ahead of time so you aren't surprised at checkout. They provide quite a nice breakfast in their dining room that I felt is worth the price. The dining room is OK for dinners. They have good local fare and the service is great. But if you want a REALLY NICE meal (and a higher price tag) just go down the street to Cafe Pierrot - less than 1 block away on the same side of the street. Finally, the shower in our room consisted of a tub with a hand-held shower that looked like an old telephone. No glass splash-shield. Slippery tub surface. My wife has mobility difficulties and getting into and out of the tub was a challenge.
Still, overall, this is a very nice hotel. Good location. Good people. Good rooms. I would highly recommend it to anyone off on a quick trip through the city of Budapest.

My husband and I just got back from an enjoyable one week stay here. He was here on business and we took the opportunity to use it as a get-away for us too. The best place to stay in Budapest is the Castle District and this is where the St. George Residence is located. This is a completely renovated hotel that boasts modern improvements which are tasteful and appropriate for the historical nature of the hotel and its surroundings. The rooms (which are all suites) are incredibly roomy, clean and included kitchens. The bathrooms are marble and huge - the bathtub was enormous- and all the fittings had gold accents and the toiletries were exquisite. Again, this establishment has been completely restored and resembles a brand new complex but the choices are definitely in keeping with an historical building, richly painted walls and beautiful antique furnishings and art - thus you have the feel of an old hotel that is completely new. The rooms are furnished with antiques, marble statues, fine art paintings, beautiful rugs on restored wood floors and antique sideboards, table and chairs. The beds are very comfortable, although ours was two twins pushed together. There is no lobby as such but more of a reception area where we were warmly and enthusiastically greeted always. The staff are very kind and helpful and we always looked forward to seeing them- they seemed genuinely interested in our plans and inquired often as to how our day was spent. They also gladly checked opening times for us, ordered our taxis and provided maps etc. We had our breakfast here a couple of mornings, for 15 euros each you can order as much and as many varied items as you wish from their menus. Because each suite has a kitchen we were encouraged to take any left-overs to our rooms for later. The food was delicious and service pleasant and swift. St. George was a wonderful find for us and we hope that others will discover this lovely place too - it deserves recognition and praise!!!

  • Liked — The spacious and clean suites complete with mini kitchen and genuine art.

We went to Budapest for our honeymoon and had a wonderful time in this hotel. The staff waited on us hand and foot and there was nothing they wouldn't do for you- lovely genuine people. It was quiet and luxurious. I loved the interior as it was antique yet modern but not in the trendy-contemporary clean-lines way so fashionable these days. Very spacious everywhere. The meals were delicious- and they greeted us with complimentary champagne and fruit- bowl. They gave us vouchers to have free cake and coffee in the afternoons. My husband sang a song with the Hungarian muscians in the evening in the restaurant/cafe. It was atmospheric and also everything was spotlessly clean! The location is perfect - beautiful sights on your doorstep. The receptionists were lovely and very helpful. There wasn't a single thing one could even nit-pick about. I highly recommend it to everyone. The suites would be suitable for families though the sheer quietness might make parents self-conscious of children running around - however the hotel would fit many a different type of traveller - please go and enjoy it!.
