“Basic, but cheap”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 6, 2009

Four of us went on a trip to Budapest on a limited budget, so we picked this one from all the others on offer.

Twin rooms were of an acceptable size and serviced to an acceptable standard.

The two in room 12 were complaining about the heat, the two in room 13 were pleasantly cool. This was in a mild late March/early April.

Very conveniently located just off Andrassy allowed a gentle stroll into the town centre and with a Metro stop about 200m away at the end of the street.

The Breakfast was limited but started the day OK with cereals, hams, cheese, various breads/rolls and coffee/flavours of teas.

The staff were happy, helpful and obliging. Don't rely on them for a weather forecast though!

I was a little apprehensive about staying here, after reading some of the reviews, but it just shows that you can't please everyone!
The hotel was basic but it was clean and the bed in room 11 very comfortable. The bathroom had a power shower and towels were changed every day. The staff spoke good English and were very helpful giving us suggestions as to bars & restaurants to visit.
Breakfast was a bit limited (cold meat, cheese, yoghurt, cereal, fruit squash (not juice), tea & coffee, bread/toast, but there was plenty of it.
If I had to name any negative points they are really minor, in that there was no hairdryer in the room, no kettle/tea & coffee making facilities (although there was a mini-bar in our room) and the rooms were non-smoking, (although there was a corridor where we were allowed to smoke)
The location is good-just off Andrassy Ut and about 5 mins walk from the "House of Terror"
Incidentally, there is a superb restaurant (Husvasalo) just a little way down Sziv Utca-the food there is fantastic!
Overall, I couldn't fault this hotel. Certainly not luxurious, but clean & comfortable.

Nice, small hotel on a quiet side street off Andrassy Ut. It's biggest plus point was that it was so near the metro. We bought a tourist ticket which sorted us out for the holiday. But you could easily walk to the city centre (turn left onto Andrassy Ut.) or turn right to go to the park (Can't remember the name of the park off-hand, it's the main one with the zoo, baths and museum).

The staff were friendly, polite and very helpful. Breakfast was nothing special, but did the job, but we (and other guests) often had to knock into the kitchen staff for re-fills, spoons etc.

The rooms were okay; clean, cable tv, no safe, there was a smell of cigarette smoke in our room, the shower head was broken, (we reported this on our first night, but it was not repaired while we were there). There was no hair- dryer, but we got a loan from reception.

  • Liked — Proximity to metro station and helpful staff
  • Disliked — Broken shower head and smell in the room

I've just spent a weekend in Budapest at this hotel and I have to say I was quite let down.

I'd booked (and paid) 6 weeks in advance for a double with bath and when I checked in I was told that they had given away all of their double rooms and all they could offer me was a twin.

The twins were awful and just a mattress on a hardboard base.

The main thing that annoyed me was the noise. All the doors have a vent at the bottom of them which lets in the noise from the foyer.

If you do stay here and are offered rooms 11 or 12 - refuse and ask to be put in a room at the back of the hotel or on the 2nd floor.

  • Liked — Location just off Andrassy Ut and near to subway
  • Disliked — The beds were awful

Hotel is conveniently located very close to Andrassy street and metro station, five minutes walking from Oktogon and Ferenc Liszt street restaurants and animation. Building looks recently refurbished and staff were correct.

During my stay there, temperatures were really high and the room -large and clean- had an air conditioned machine that only worked after an extra payment of 10 euro, something that looked greedy from hotel ownership.

Informations on hotel said that there is wifi on the rooms. There were no wifi in my room. A complimentary computer with high speed internet, located in the lobby, could be used by clients.

Breakfast were not impressive, but enough to begin the day with some energy.

A short walk from hotel is the House of Terror, the former secret police building, at Andrassy street. It is worth a visit, to know about recent Hungarian history.

The hotel is ok and the staff are very nice but don't stay there when the weather is hot! I stayed in July when the weather was hot and confirmed a room with air conditioning (which costs EUR10 more) but upon arrival was told that they had given this room away. In the room the temperature overnight was over 35 degrees celcius and impossible to sleep, during the day it was even hotter and not pleasant to stay.
All rooms on the top floor and probably some others are not air conditioned and it is impossible to use the wireless internet connection from there. Their wireless internet connection is free but doesn't allow VPN access, so forget about getting your email from work!
Breakfast was included but is very basic with bread, 3 cereals and diluted juice.
There are better places in Hungary to stay for the same price.

  • Liked — Staff service is good but they only speak Hungarian and English
  • Disliked — Room way too hot, internet doesn't work, bed sheet has holes in it

We don’t recommend staying here. While the location is good, the hotel engages in several practices that are unfair or otherwise frustrating. First, and most importantly, they charge an extra 10 euros a night (about 14 US dollars) for air conditioning, which is necessary if you are staying during July or August. The rooms are stifling hot without it.
You’ll be notified of this extra a/c charge only after checking in – we booked our reservations two months before and were never told of this (we originally paid $422 for four nights in mid July, 2007, and just returned from Budapest).
Additionally, our room wasn’t cleaned regularly and the bathroom shower stall leaked all over the room. Finally, the hotel will only reserve cabs to the airport using a company that charges twice (yes, twice!) the rate other companies charge: 6,000 florints rather than 3,000 florints.
The staff I spoke to admitted that the a/c charge and cab policy were unfair, but did nothing about it.
Avoid this place.

  • Liked — location was good, though not great.
  • Disliked — See comments: a/c policy, room service, cab policy.
