Booked into the Kapital Inn after leaving a 14 day river cruise in Budapest. Appalling weather, cold, drizzle and almost snowing and yet our 2 day stay with the delightful Albert warmed us immensely. With 2 very heavy suitcases, plus in-flights, in tow, our hearts sank at the sight of the 3 flights of stairs and no elevator to be seen to our loft-style room. But our mountain goat host not only carried the 2 cases with embarrassing gusto, he actually waited at the top of each flight for us to catch up! Don't you hate that?
The room was almost Parisian in its rooftop outlook and seemed like a scene from Fiddler of the Roof, or Mary Poppins. Lovely big bathroom and rainforest shower head and our decidedly cold morale soared. Albert's guest kitchen was crammed with all sorts of delights, including Budapest's renowned pastries and breakfasts at the Kapital are a treat, especially chef Albert's trademark omelettes. While the weather certainly ruled our use of it, there is a lovely alfresco courtyard just outside the kitchen which must be a delight on a summer.
Albert sat with us for quite some time making suggestions and recommendations; he really is a 'people' kind of a guy. An example! He got up at 3:45am on a bleak, sleety Budapest morning to nonchalantly jog downstairs with our cases to make sure we made or crack-of-dawn flight. Albert and the home-away-from-home Kapital Inn, are a pleasure not to be missed in beautiful Budapest.
