“Enjoyable evening meal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2014

I was the guest of some very good friends living in Budapest. The restaurant has opened quite recently. The staff were helpful, spoke excellent English and were very pleasant. The specials were interesting and in a couple of cases quite novel. The mushroom soup was very flavoursome, with interesting meatballs and the duck of breast was the best that I have had in years. The chocolate souffle was nice, but had spend 2 minutes too long in the oven. Thank you for a lovely evening!.

“Good food but...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2014

Fioka is located at the intersection of Varosmajor utca and Srilagi Ersabet Fasor at the end of the 59 tram run, or you can catch the 61 tram getting off at St Janos Koorhaz. Its closed Mondays and Tuesdays but otherwise open for lunch and dinner.

I had a steak and my partner had steak tartar. The steak was excellent but they prepared the tartar differently to what one expects, meaning they mixed the ingredients beforehand rather than offering them for the customer to mix. The prices are high by local standards but in fact I paid exactly the same price in euros for a nearly identical steak in Holland the week before, and the prices also match those in Sydney. Both meals with beer, a coke and one dessert came to the equivalent of US$50 including a 15% tip.

Some hours afterwards I had gastric problems as did my partner hours later but we cannot be sure this traced back to the meal at Fioka although we had eaten nothing in between.

“Lovely place in Városmajor”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2014

Simple, stylish decor, delicious food and drinks and seems to be popular with the locals. The location is a bit out from the center, but definitely a worth to try place!
The only negative experience was with our waiter, who was a bit puzzled, after 20 minutes had to ask him to collect our plates for starters - and seemed to have forgotten our main courses, but apart from that we loved the restaurant.
