“A really pleasant surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2012

Booked through Expedia and considering how little we paid, was not expecting such a nice quality hotel. Spacious, clean rooms, nice bathroom, massive bed (great for a very tall couple like us) and excellent service from staff. Very quiet rooms, couldn't hear a thing once inside. Slightly too hot at night but not really a problem. Breakfast had good variety and choice from day to day. Great location for exploring as Metro stop 5 mins away and trams linking you to the whole city within minutes, ideal really. Some good things in walking distance: Natural History museum and Holocaust Museum, Old Market Hall, Freedom Bridge, Raday Utca for evening meals all within 10 min walk, and we walked into the centre of Pest within 20 mins along some nice streets and areas. Overall, very impressed with such a nice hotel and helpful staff at a great price.

Close to metro station. A shopping centre nearby. Rooms are fine.

But the bathroom is stupid. Towers are dirty. Wifi is only available in lobby. Staff took a photo on me when I am sitting in lobby (i am Asian) breakfast is the worst. Orange juice is diluted chemical mixture. Bread same food for three days. I wont come back for sure

Arrived at hotel and was treated very well. Asked for another pillow and was delivered to the room promptly. Breakfast was good, something for everyone and replenished regularly. The juices were not great but not a problem. The rooms were comfortable although limited on wardrobe space and very hot. A good budget hotel with very good staff.

We arrived Budapest from London, get a book of 10 tickets from the newsagent in the airport - valid for bus, tram and metro. Take the 220E bus outside the terminal to the nearest metro station and get on Line 3. After 7 stops, alight at Corvin Negyed station, look out for Utta ut exit and another 3 to 5 minutes walk, you will arrive at the hotel.
It's receptionist speaks English, friendly and helpful. You can get Free wifi in your room. The room is adequate, air conditioned and clean. The bathroom is a bit on the small side and water from the shower run off to the floor - due to poor design. Breakfast is good. We left early morning on our last day and ask for a food parcel, it was dully provided. Ideal for using it as a base. It is in District 5 but walking distance to District 1, where most of the sightseeing sites are. It is also near the food street in Budapest and many restaurants and bars you can choose from.

Room Tip: We stayed on the first floor so the wifi signal was good. No guarantee if you have a room higher up...

My best friends are found in the newspaper Excellent Deal for 3 nights in Budapest for $ 400 including airfare and hotel. And I found the hotel city inn. Everywhere registered four star but I think it's only 3 star but very good. We came to the hotel at 21:00 pm and was working at the reception. We waited 10 minutes for someone to come help. I think he goes to smoke outside. But he was very nice and let us beautiful rooms in the old wing. But you know if you get good rooms so I say to you if you take an elevator to the right of the reception so it's old rooms division, but if you take a new elevator behind the desk at the entrance to dining room so you get a new wing. The room is very clean and has lots of pillows on the bed but I could not find even one convenient for me. Air Conditioning, it worked great and it was great. Breakfast is like 5 stars I liked a lot and a lot of variety. There are also great views of the hotel garden. If you want a heated swimming pool just across the street and it costs 6 euros per day. The hotel's location is good right next to the big shopping center of Budapest corvin new plaza and it is also open on Sunday with a huge supermarket in the basement just 50 meters away and there is a new street with cafes near all area renewed and refurbished. But if you are really a bit hungry at night then leave the hotel right across the main road has a 24-hour convenience store and a shop Internet and international telephone dialing Shale to two nice guys from Afghanistan

Room Tip: New rooms in the back. There is a new elevator

This is definitely NOT a 3 star establishment LOCATED on the outskirts of the city. Whoever gave this place a 3 star rating is delusional ! *** Martha at the front desk is an arrogant , rude, miserable and unprofessional front desk employee. She never cracks a smile , is void of any personality and she treats the hotel guests with no respect whatsoever. She is argumentative and knows how to humiliate guests in public. She is quite deft at speaking to guests in a condescending manner . There is also a rude guy working at the desk . He tries to speak English but hasnt quite mastered it yet. He has a "know it all" attitude and isnt very helpful at all. He speaks over the guests while they talk to him and never apologizes if he makes a mistake. He is very rude to the guests as well and is QUITE ARROGANT.

The breakfast staff are lovely Hungarian girls who try their best to speak English. They go out of their way to please all the guests. The morning breakfast buffet is always the same, not much variety and is filled with unhealthy choices like pork dishes and lots of pastries. You rarely see a vegetable on the buffet and the food is usually very salty , GREASY AND UNHEALTHY. IF YOU WANT JUST EGG WHITES FORGET IT!!! They have eggs filled with ham and lots of salads made with heavy mayonnaise , no healthy choices at all !
The hotel's brochure is filled with lies. There is no 24 hour restaurant and there is no spa. there is HOWEVER a Tacky cheesy gym (NOT OWNED BY THE HOTEL) across the street which you must pay for. there is a room UPSTAIRS in the hotel which the hotel staff dissuades the guests from using which should be a sauna for the guest's use.. It has a terrace with a view of an ugly tenement building across the street with the resident's clothes hanging to dry on their terraces. The staff in the hotel makes this process very difficult and grueling since they DO NOT GIVE THE GUEST ACCESS TO THIS SO CALLED " SPA". It looks as though it's never been utilized and there is no attending staff to assist the guest with anything. Its quite depressing up there and it has a really somber vibe. THE HOTEL ROOM KEY DOES NOT ALLOW ACCESS TO THIS SO CALLED "SPA" AND U MUST BE INCONVENIENCED AND TELL THE DESK THAT YOU WANT TO GO INTO THE "SPA" AND FOR HOW LONG YOU WILL BE THERE. THEN THEY MUST ACTIVATE YOUR KEY AND YOU ARE BEING WATCHED WITH CAMERAS IN THIS ROOM WHICH IS VOID OF ANY CHARM OR CHARACTER. THERE ISNT ANYONE TO HELP YOP WITH ANYTHING AND THEY DONT EVEN GIVE THE GUESTS TOWELS. THERE IS NO AMBIENCE, NO MUSIC AND NO PRIVACY, THERE ARE CAMERAS EVERYWHERE !!! BY THE WAY... MOST OF THE HOTEL ROOMS DONT EVEN HAVE BLACKOUT CURTAINS AND THE SUN COMES PIERCING THROUGH THE GLASS AND THE ROOMS GET VERY VERY HOT. THE HALLWAYS AND THE STAIRWELLS ARE NOT AIR CONDITIONED THE HOTEL MANAGER IS RARELY VISIBLE AND THE STAFF BASICALLY DOES WHATEVER THEY WANT WHEN SHE ISNT AROUND. ITS RUN LIKE A ZOO. I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE GOING TO BUDAPEST . BE PREPARED, YOU WILL GET 1 TINY BOTTLE OF SHAMPOO FOR YOUR ENTIRE STAY IF YOURE LUCKY !!!. THIS PLACE IS VERY TACKY

Just back from four nights at the City Inn, Budapest. This is a very friendly, clean, comfortable and accessible hotel, just right for a short break. The reception we received was as good as the complimentary earlier posts on this site. The guy at the desk couldn't do enough to make us feel at home, breakfasts were excellent with a good deal of continental type choices and the room was made up every day. Coffee could have been better, but this is a minor quibble. The en-suite is really a wet room, and although appearing to be flooded, dries remarkably quickly. The air-con was fine for late September. The hotel is only a few yards from the brand new Corvin Shopping Centre, and across the square from the south entrance (nearest to the City Inn), are a selection of cafes, one of which, the Kompote Bistro serves a very reasonably priced but beautifully presented menu, with friendly staff who speak good English. The hotel is within easy walking distance of the metro - just the other end of the shopping centre - and only about a twenty minute flat walk from the heart of Budapest. If you want a trip on the Danube but are reluctant to shell out the exorbitant hop-on hop-off prices, use the public transport ferry - cost around £1.20 per trip (i.e. as far as you want to go). Going north, check on the stops and make sure you get off opposite the south end of Margaret Island unless you fancy a long trip out to the northern suburbs. All in all, a good value hotel in a beautiful city, around 30 minutes' taxi ride from the sirport. Although check-out was 11.00am, our cases were well looked after and there is a comfortable reception area to wait for the transfer back to the airport.
