“AMAZING HOSTEL!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2010

We stayed here for four days and had an amazing time. The rooms were spacious and very well decorated. The staff at the hostel were very nice, giving us directions every morning for where we wanted to go and also recommending where to eat.

We met Mark 9the owner) on one of the nights when one of our group got sick and he was so helpful in calling an ambulance and then translating for us. Eva who is normally there in the mornings was incredibly helpful.

Breakfast at the hostel was ok...make sure if you want it you order the night before.

Prior to our arrival Mark sorted out an airport pick up for us, so as soon as we landed there was someone to take us straight to the hostel and on the day we were leaving there was also somone to take us back....very useful and efficient service which worked out at 30 euros for 6 people.

Staying here really made our holiday, it was nice after a day out sightseeing to always come back to a warm and comfortable room!

I RECOMMEND HIGHLY!

Staff was helpful in many ways. Telling reasonable taxirates, places to go, etc. Everything was easy, room was Perfect! atmosphere calm, lots of things delightful for your eyes on the wall, ceiling, floor, whole building was beautiful, lots of art nouveau, which I like a lot. "food program" was fine so if we would have been on a shoestring budget we wouldn't have starved to death, because of it. We had money though. And our time was limited to really enjoy the place. Place for different people, relaxed young people, zen-budhist, yoga-practiciers, lovers, from all aroud the world. Best hotel or hostel I have ever been and if ever coming Budapest again it will be The Mandragora Hostel, It's perfect for me!

The Mandragora Hostel & Doubles is the most untypical place we have ever stayed at.It's located in a big old tenement house with a beautifull inner court and a small fountain.
It has a full kitchen, comfy sitting room with a dvd player and computer and a really breathtaking bedroom with comfy, big beds which sometimes are really helpfull:))

We arrived in the early morning hours so we didn't know what to expect... We were welcomed by Daniel from the staff of Doubles (the most generous and helpfull guy I have ever met). we had to wait for a room because it was 8 a.m., but he prepared us coffee and chat about all the strangest topics we had in our heads after 11 hours of railway tour :)
After we unpacked our lagguage, he helped us with choosing a museum and Pub for the evening and it was a really honest advice and not an advertisment or sth like that...
During our stay there were maybe two couples but I'm not sure because all of us had a padlock for our door, there was no curfew or any night rumours....
Also Mark-the owner was really a rabbit hearted man, he allowed us to stay for free almost all day in our room after quiting our payment because we had a night train...

So, as You can see from my review the hostel, owner and the staff is all really the most untypical, friendly place to stay and to enjoy your staying the most You can with any problems which travelers sometimes have.

Tkank You Mandragora Hostel & Doubles for an unforgotable holiday!!!

I was in Mandragora hostal for 3 days in late may (2009). The accommodations and two bathrooms were clean and the hostal is 24h controlled by gentle girls at reception.
It is a good base point to plan a visit of the city: it is not difficult to reach from Keleti train station by walk too (about 15 minutes), and in 5 minutes you can arrive to metro stations.
My nights there were silent enough. Inside the hostal you can find many suggestions about the city's main points of interest. The WI-FI connection was good.
I suggest it to all wants to find a cheaper and pleasant place in Budapest, especially if you day is spent almost all outside in the city.
An hello to girls at receptions ;)

I booked the private double room for my boyfriend and I to stay in for 3 nights in Budapest.

From the moment we arrived there was a very laid-back attitude. We were checked in immediately and promptly passed out on our comfy bed for some seriously overdue sleep!
We were given a padlock for our door which was great and as there was no curfew, we were free to come and go as we pleased knowing that our belongings were safe.

The only thing I would say is that the double room is just off the communal kitchen and, although signs say that the kitchen shouldn't be used after 10pm, there was still people watching DVDs and chatting. Despite this, we were told that if it was a problem we were to say to the staff. We didn't mind at all.

Speaking of the staff, they were all very polite, friendly and helpful. They left us to it, however were eager to give information when we needed it.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Mandragora hostel and would recommend it to anyone regardless of the length of your stay.

This was the absolutely best place we stayed during our extensive trip through Europe. The Mandragora had it all: wonderful and very helpful staff, a full kitchen with a dining table, dvd's to rent, free internet, comfy sitting space, library, laundry , and a nice quiet environment in an absolutely great neighborhood with plenty of cafes, restaurants and shopping. We liked it so much we stayed for nearly 2 weeks and met more lovely people than we possibly could have hoped. I am so happy to have had the experience that we did there. It made Budapest all the better.

Thank you, Mandragora!
