“So-so hotel in Budapest”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2009

Hotel is a walk away from the main train station, the Bridge, and the tourist areas. Messed up our reservations, but the a/c was cold. Be ready to walk up weirdly placed stairwells if you get room #'s 40 and above. Breakfast was so-so for European hotel, TV is a joke, but room was clean. Price was good, but you get what you pay for. Forget the advertised bar and restaurant here- fast food Chinese and drinks in the cubbyhole of a lobby. Reminds me of a bad Club Quarters in the U.S.

I stayed 5 nights in this hotel. I liked the location and the free wireless internet connection. The worst about it was the housekeeping staff. The room attendant could not speak a word of English, and she had the habit of entering my room without knocking first. On the first ocassion she did that and when I was in the room, I said to her she should knock before she entered. She said something back which I could not understand. And then moment later she did it again. Later on I talked to the reception about it, but he not only did not acknowledge the problem but was very defensive. I could not understand why it was such a problem getting them to understand such a basic housekeeping rule in any hotels. With the exception of just two receptionists who were very professional friendly and helpful, the others were cold, aloof and unhelpful.

The hotel was in an old building. The carpet looked very cheap and was of an orangy colour. The drawer in the wardrobe was broken. I could hear the person showering in the next room. There was no in room tea and coffee making facility. The breakfast was boring and was the same every morning - scrambled egg and sausages on toast. After 3 days, I was not looking forward to it. Like the manager said, it was an old hotel, don't expect too much and you might enjoy your stay. But I will look for other hotels next time I am in town.

We chose this hotel as it had a sauna and hot tub! But never got round to using it!

We were a little concerned walking upto the hotel as there is a (strip club and *** Shop) next door but one! And what with the hotel being called Swing City!!! U can imagine what we thought!

Check-in was straight forward! Room was on 1st Floor, i had requested a quiet room and a refurbished room...Are room, was large with 2 single beds pushed together. There was a wardrobe, 2 bed side cabinets, min-bar, dressing table, 2 chairs and luggage rack and plenty of room..The ensuite shower room was of a good size...with heated towel rail and hairdryer...

Hotel is opposite the tramway which you can actually hop on and off, plus the metro is a 5minute walk away....The daube is about 10mins away and central market hall is about 20-30mins walk away...Single journeys are 270 forints!! You are supposed to validate your ticket when you get on the bus or tram but we could not see what the point to this was! We bought a couple of tickets and kept them on us incase we got asked to show them so basically we ended up having free transport during our stay! They have security guards on the metros' though so you defo have to pay there...

Breakfast was ok....there was a choice of cereal (all nutty kind+nesquick) bread for toasting, rolls, cold meats and cheese, yoghurts, fruit drinks, tea and coffee, hot chocolate and fresh fruit so not bad for the price you pay for the hotel...

Most locals are unhelpful!! We tried to ask several people on how to get to places but they just shrugged their shoulders or walked away!! Great eh!!! So finding places was often a little difficult! We
ended up doing a tour which was good and we are glad we did this as we wouldnt have found everywhere! You cant prononuce the hunagrian place names, so u have no chance!!

I would use this hotel again....and also would recommend this hotel..

The first night at the hotel we were kept awake by plumbing noises coming from the bathrom. I went for shower in the morning but water was freezing cold. Rang down to reception who said they would call back once they had checked the problem out. Call received from reception stating that there had been a problem with heating but water would be ok in 20mins. An hour later there was still no hot water. Reception was apologetic and immediately offered us a room on the other side of the hotel. We were happy with this service.

The room was far nicer and had a balcony (there are only two balconies in the hotel). Downside is the noise from the main street with the regular trams going back and forth.

Hotel roms are basic but are more than reasonable for the price. We were disappointed with breakfast as there is one small toaster between everyone, and very little choice of food. But again too be expected for the price.

My boyfriend used the gym and found it to be well equipped. The gym is open to the public and gets busy around 5pm.

The street the hotel is on has several sex shops/peep shows. There is one of these just two door down from the hotel. We had no trouble wth this but it is worth noting as some people may not appreciate this next to their hotel.

The location of the hotel was good, not far from the Metro-station (which by the way is a great way to get around the city).

The staff was mostly wery helpful and friendly, eccept from when we found out that there were only one pillow and blanket on the bed (in a dobleroom). The receptionist told us that it was under the bed. We went out, when we came back we checked again, and didn't find it. He tol it was under the bad again, but he didentknow exactly where. We finaly found it, so it was OK, but i think they should have fixed it while we were out...

The room had a little funny smell, but was clean, eccept the bathroom, whice was not wery pleasant. The floor, the outside of the toilet and walls was not clean. The interior was like in the pictures of the website.

One could very well heare noice from the hallway.

I would not reccomend this hotel to friends.

This hotel is situated on one of the main streets in Budapest, with a tram stop just outside. The nearest metro station is about 5 minutes walk down the main street and the nearest bridge over the Danube is just a few minutes walk.

This hotel won't be to everyone's taste as there is a strip joint (it didn't seem to busy) next door but one, but it's ideally located to get to everything, with bars, restaurants and shops just a stones throw away (I'd recommend Raday Utca for some good restaurants). I'd also recommend Vaci Utca as there are some nice shops and cafes situated here.

The staff were helpful when asked questions although there was sometimes a language barrier.

The room was fairly small but fairly well furnished. The shower was good and there was a hairdryer in the room. The rooms were also very clean, when we were leaving we noticed that the cleaners completely empty the rooms of furniture and deep clean the carpets.

One complaint about the room would be that the beds were a little too firm, also the pillows were very flat and there was one giant pillow and one very small pillow on each bed...not sure if this is a hungarian thing.

Our room opened onto a veranda that backed out into a sort of forecourt in the middle of the complex. The room was lovely and quiet most of the time apart from a little noise when people came back to the rooms.

There was satellite TV, however it was only Mtv, VH1, CNN and BBC World that was in english so if you like a bit on entertainment whilst you are waiting for someone to get read then I suggest you take your Ipod/psp etc.

TIP: We went to buy a 3 day travel card which was approx 6000 forints in the hotel, they didn't sell these but did sell the Budapest Card, this give discounts in restaurants, museums etc but unless you are planning on doing some serious museum visits I'd stick to a straightforward travel card or even pay as you go. We didn't buy a card in the end as we mainly walked place to place. A single ticket is 270 forints and can be bought at the tram/metro stops. A 1 day travel card is approx 1500 forints.

Tip: You can pick up a free magazine in most bars and restaurants called Funzine, this is in English and we found the best maps in this magazine and also good suggestions of where to go.

Tip: For men who think they'll miss out on sport events there is an Irish Bar called Becketts that showed the big matches.

We booked this hotel as part of a package with a certain orange coloured airline, and were delighted with our choice.

The staff were all very pleasant and spoke good English. The room was comfortable and the bathroom very good, with a great shower. Breakfast was included in the price also.

Location was great, a tram station right opposite the hotel and a metro station on the same street. Also just round the corner from the lively Raday Street.

Great for a short stay with girlfriend!
