“Basic but nice :)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 30, 2014

Stayed for two nights with my boyfriend, we were very happy with what we got for our money. The hostel was slightly basic, but we had everything we needed - toilets/showers were very clean and bed was very big and comfortable. From what I could see the kitchen was quite small, though this is probably not an issue as the hostel does not have beds for that many guests. We found that we did not need to use the kitchen as food can be SO cheap in Budapest if you go to the right place (2 course meal each and two beers for the equivalent of £12 - wow!)

The location was good, we didn't need to use any public transport whilst we were in Budapest, and the hostel its self felt very safe and secure, passing through 2 locked doors/gates to get into the hostel. Only issue was that the bedding did not quite fit the bed, but this was not a massive issue as we were using sleeping bags on the bed anyway, I'm sure this could have been amended if we asked :). Overall we found it to be very good value for money and would definitely recommend for people who want a base to explore the city in a couple/group!

A friend and I stayed in a dorm room for a week and had a great experience at black apple. The dorms are very spacious with comfortable beds and the owner was very sweet and helpful. For people who like to party but then go to bed in peace and quiet this hostel is perfect. No more than a 10 minute walk from all bars and shops.. We didn't really need to use any public transport the whole time we were in Budapest. Having not been to Budapest before we asked the owner to transfer us to and from the airport, she happily obliged for a small fee! Highly recommended!

It was a nice hostel, Me and my other 4 friends stayed for a night. Hostel got big room with five comfortable beds and bedside locker for every one.

There is tram stop right in front of hostel and a metro station with 3 minute walk.

Nice, clean rooms and had Good Wifi

This hostel is worth for its price

We chose this hostel after reading several positive reviews on the internet. On one hand it fullfiled all our expectations - the hostel is cheap and in quite a good location near the city center, the room and facilities were clean. On the other hand, the hostel lacks character. The staff were quite distant. Also the walls are quite thin so you can hear everything that happens in other rooms.

Our room was lovely - really spacious and light. Very clean, with lockable bedside cabinets and a balcony. The hostel was tiny, with only 5 rooms or so. There were 2 showers which we never had to wait for, and 2 toilets. The hostel was run by two women who were really sweet and helpful.
The only bad thing was that we thought there was a kitchen, but it turned out that there was only a microwave and sink, but no cooker.
It was a bit hard to find initially and the tube instructions on the website were wrong, it would have been much easier to get off at a different stop!

This tiny hostel only had 3 private rooms and 2 dorm rooms (no idea how many dorm beds per room). It was a bit hard to find as its in a residential building and not well marked. The staff was professional yet a bit distant. Our room was right next to the 24 hour reception which made it a bit uncomfortable since they were aware of our every move and bowel movement. The shared bathrooms were clean and the showers had hot water and good water pressure. The room was clean and comfortable, the only problem I had with it is that the curtains were thin and there were no hooks to hang your towel after the shower (no towels provided). The internet was amazingly good and we were able to stream shows online (maybe the only benefit to being next to the office?) Checkout is at 10am.

We stayed 2 nights at Black Apple after deciding to extend our stay in Budapest. Our original hostel was booked, so we moved here.

Essentially we were shown to our room, and told not to slam the door. Kitchen facilities were good, showers were clean.

A basic hostel where you get what you pay for, but might be worth shopping around elsewhere first.
