“Great Value and great quality of food/choice!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2009

Although the standard rooms are basic and would benefit from a lick of paint, they are really clean and well looked after. Hotel staff were really helpful/friendly and check in/out was quick and simple.
We went on a B&B basis and the food was lovely. Their was a huge variety of food to suit everyone, which was fresh and tasty.
The hotel is in a fantastic location (no more than a five minute walk to the Danube and main tourist area of Pest. Metro station is right outside the hotel, so it is really easy to travel all round Budapest quick and easy.
The decore of the main area is amazing and elegant and really makes this hotel unique.
We would definitely go back to this hotel again, had a fantastic stay, cannot complain about anything!

Very lovely hotel, old world ambience with very good service, but beautifully maintained. The breakfast is a little pricey but does save you dragging around. If you really don't want to fork out 14 euro there are plenty of cafes around that will do a breakfast for 2 euro up.

The beauty of this hotel has to be the Mirror cafe - its really good - and serves well after 10pm so nice place to relax with a beer or coffee or one of their lovely cakes. Another good point is there is air conditioning, you are within 10 foot of the Metro and several tram lines and also sound proofing in the newer wing.

Might not have the appeal of the area around the Castle which is more touristy but you can get there from Deak Ferenc Ter (short walk away) with just one bus or get red metro to Moskova Ter and then a bus.

A good hotel but not excellent. It is old and has charm. We had a problem with our booking but overall it was good. It was clean and spacious but the best thing about the hotel was the location. If you can get a good deal, go for it - otherwise I don't think it was great value, we paid 67 euros. It also does not offer extras like breakfast (very expensive) and you also had to pay for Hi-Fi, which was not a reasonable rate.

My sister and I stayed here for 4 nights during the sziget festival - great location, rooms were really spacious and clean, and hotel itself is beautiful. We booked it in june and got a great deal - €60 a night for the room. I would definitely stay in this hotel again and would recommend it to fellow travelers visiting budapest.

We booked this hotel for the first week of August and stayed here for 6 nights. As other reviewers have indicated there are two types of rooms in this hotel - economy ones and renovated, more expensive ones.We had an economy room at the back of the hotel-for a rate of 40 euro including breakfast. The room was in the third floor right at the back- the inside was spacious enough, incredibly quiet and quite comfortable (excluding the pillows which at times felt like sleeping on a beach with pebbles). One of the wallpapers was a bit mouldy, but apart from that everything else was fine and the room inclouded a tv, a mini-bar etc.The bathroom was fully renovated , spacious and very clean- the only problem being that there was absolutely no ventilation which made the whole experience slightly comical at times.
The service was ok -most people at reception were extremely accomodating and eager to help except one person who was obviously bored (even lied to us because he couldn't be bothered to direct us to one of the sights). One morning the reception lady at breakfast missheard our room number, thought we had not paid and followed us all the way to the dining room clutching an invoice for 14 euro and barked "Sign this" without explaining what the invoice was and why we had to sign it .Luckily we understood what had happened but it's good to explain first.
Breakfast was not so good -there is an offer when you check in to buy breakfast for the rate of 14 euro per day.The breakfast was definately below standard in comparison to most 4 star hotels that I have stayed and we got the distinct impression (we were there for 6 days) that a lot of the food was not so fresh and that cheese, ham and eggs that had not been eaten were saved up and served to us the next day. There was no fresh juice and the coffee ran out quite often.
The location is what makes this hotel .It is fantastic for absolutely everything in Budapest right next door to a metro station, the bus stop and also within walking distance of most major sights. All in all this was a great bargain- minus the breakfast.

We stayed at this hotel for 7 nights while attending the Sziget festival on Obuda Island (too old to festival camp for that length of time!!).

We arrived at the hotel 3 hours late due to flight delays and were checked in swiftly and politely in wonderful, ornate reception area. Made way to room on 4th floor and were pleasantly suprised. Room and bathroom were decorated very nicely (if a bit bare with only one picture on the wall) and of a good size. TV, hairdryer, phone etc - only thing that we missed was tea and coffee making facilities (but this may be normal for Budapest hotels). Room had a bit of traffic noise as the hotel is at a busy intersection - not too bad at night though.

Service was generally found to be of a high standard. However, one night we arrived back and neither of our room cards would work. We went back to reception who then reactivated the cards but with no explanation or apology which was a shame.

The Metro is right outside the hotel door and it is only a 5-10 minute walk to Elizabeth Bridge. Most places are walkable from the hotel.

At only an average of £55 a night for a 4* hotel, we found this to be a bargain and highly recommend it to others.

We stayed here for 5 nights only because we got a very good rate - 50 euros a night, breakfast excluded. I have mixed feelings about this hotel, but I incline to recommend it due to its location - 5 min from Vaci Utca and Elizabeth Bridge. The room was really big, we had 2 bathrooms, I think it was a suite in fact and they had locked one one room. We had a nice view on both sides of the street, but the traffic was heavy, and at moments I could feel the room shaking, so if you are a light sleeper ask for a more quiet room, the sound proof windows are of no help. What I did not like was that only upon my asking if we really had a non-smoking room did the receptionist say they had none left but if we do not like our room they will change it tomorrow - this explains maybe why we got the big room with 2 bathrooms, but what if I had not asked... Second, the cleaning lady 'forgot' to leave us bathroom toiletries two days in a row, and we had to ask for them at the reception. I do not think this should happen at a 4 star hotel.. But on the whole we wanted a clean room in a central location, and this is what we got, at an excellent rate, so I would definitely go there again. Besides there is a McDonald's right near the hotel, and a non-stop store a few meters down the street.
