Great hotel. Got a great bargain, so this was a spluge for someone who usually does 3-star hotels.

If you make your own way there, it was a little difficult to find. We made our way there via public transport from the Nuygati rail / metro station (it's a 5 minute walk). From Nyugati, take the underground passage from the metro exit (or the rail station side of the street), and watch the signs in the underground passage for St. Istvan Ter. Then walk on the same side you come out of the passage on (north side) for a few short streets. If you rach Pannonia Utca, you went too far--turn around and double back. Here's the crucial information: if you're coming west along Saint Istvan Ter, look to your right--it's on a small street at the end of a cul de sac. There's a small NH hotels banner above the sidewalk on Saint Istvan Ter, just at the corner with Pannonia Utca, which on one side says "NH Hotel" and on the other, gives you a map of how to get there. But if you're coming towards the west, you'll just see the logo and be confused!

The hotel is clean, modern, and well-appointed. The breakfast was amazing! I am not sure I'd pay 16 Euro for any breakfast. However, use a booking site that includes breakfast. I paid $150 including breakfast and taxes using otel dot com (and got a 5% credit for future bookings).

The other postings were correct that if you use the thermostat, the temperature is adjusted only 3 degrees + or - from the hotel's ambient temperature, however, the temps were in the 60s/70s fahrenheit when I was there, and so the ambient temperature of the hotel was perfectly comfortable with minor adjustments.

Rooms include safe, minibar, electric kettle with tea and instant coffee, tv, and free LAN (the front desk will loan you a free ethernet cable). Wireless LAN is available at a charge, but you can plug into ethernet for free internet access in the room.

The bath is nice, well-designed, and clean and they provide a nice range of toiletries.

The staff were friendly and provided lots of local information.

For a nice, inexpensive Indian meal, Punjab Tandoori on Pannonia Utca is just around the corner (turn right out the door, and right on Pannonia). A nice meal for two with drinks was 7000 HUF (including a tip). There are many other spots in the area to eat, have a coffee, see a movie, or hear music. I doubt there's better shopping anywhere else, either.

My wife, 20 year old daughter and I stayed in Suitehome residence, Prague, Best Western Zum Hirschen in Salzburg, K&K Maria Theresia in Vienna, and NH Budapest, during our end of May 2006 tour. Finding room for three was difficult and considerably limited our choice of hotels.

NH Budapest dissapointed somewhat after staying in K&K in Vienna. The location is "central" all right (although the meaning of the center is somewhat blurred in Budapest), but the neighborhood is dominated by a variety of strip-clubs and sex shops. The carpet in the hallway in front of the elevators and rooms was terribly dirty, and I was afraid to find out what it looks like in the room. The room, however, was clean, but on the smaller side, especially for three (they charged 40Euro for extra bedding on the couch). The beds were uncomfortable. We did not utilize the offer to select custom pillows free of charge.

The breakfast was not included in the price (the only hotel out of four that we stayed in), and this was not apparent when I booked through the hotel web site (Web site lists breakfast and parking as amenities together with internet, gym and sauna, so you assume they are all included - but breakfast and parking are extra). The breakfast was 16Euro per person(!!) - that's another $60 to the price of the room, and while it was good, it was certainly overpriced. Unfortunately, we did not find a nice breakfast place outside among those sex shops, so we had to pay. The staff was somewhat abrupt, but eventually we got we needed.

Overall, while this is a reasonable hotel, it's dramatically overpriced, and certainly not worth the money.

I will keep this short and sweet:

The NH Budapest was extremely good value for money. We paid £200 each for four nights with buffet breakfast and flights and were not dissapointed.

The rooms are immaculate and you would feel right at home if you expected a four or five star surroundings. The foyer area is new and always clean and the bar is small but does the trick. The location is also second to none, being right in the heart of one of the busiest streets but set back enough down a back street so as to not hear the traffic noise.

I couldn't rate this highly enough as we loved our stay! I would say though, that if you are scared of heights then ask to be placed in floors one or two as the view from the seventh floor down to reception was excellent for me but not for my partner!

Stay here!!

Having traipsed from the train station and down a few streets with our cases on a wet Sunday afternoon we were delighted to arrive at our hotel and find that we could happily stay indoors for the rest of the evening. After sampling some of the mini toiletries in the bathroom and having a nice soak, we ate in the restaurant, very nice food and not overpriced at all, and had a drink at the bar. The next day, we found that the hotel was very convenient to several little restaurants and the public transport and the shops. And near to the Margaret Bridge! All in all a great place to stay, very helpful in every way.

Clean and modern hotel with plenty of facilities. On a quiet side road near a busy road so it was in a good location for transport links. The trams / buses operate just on the main road so it is handy just remember to stamp your ticket when you get on.

Leave your laptop at home as there is a room with free internet access.

The bar prices weren't too bad for a hotel either being about 700 HUF for a beer. Just shout out what you want when you sit at the bar otherwise the bar tender will ignore you probably because he doesn't know what language to speak.

The only downside was that the air conditioning didn't really seem to do a lot as it only adjusted the ambient temperature of the hotel's by a couple of degress either way.

Expensive breakfast but they always are in hotels. We ate in the cafe on the main road opposite or the bakery just up the main road.

We never ate in the restaurant which always seemed quiet but in the Italian down the road. I highly recommend Taj Mahal on Szondi utca 40 as it was one of the best curries I have ever had...you know it is good if all the Indians are eating in there.

Staff always willing to do anything for you if you ask. Like the return airport transfer 2,300 HUF each.
